Hi everyone,

I am from Windhoek, Namibia, Africa .... I really love this forum and can't wait for 2 to be finished. I have a couple of questions.... I know I should probably not post it here, but I don't know where else...

BTW feel free to have a look at my forum ..... http://www.davincis.com.na/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi

Will it be difficult to convert mine to  YaBB2 ??? would really love to hear some feedback.

Or can you point me in the right direction of where I should post this?

? no.1

I have searched and searched, but can't get extra smilies to work. I am using 1 Gold - SP 1.4 and use boardmod to change the files .... Obviously I am doing it wrong, but my other mods are working.

Then ? no.2

Where it says on top, Hey, GuyFromAfrica, you have 0 messages.
is there a way to get it to say Hey, GuyFromAfrica, you have 2 messages, 1 are new. ... ?

Then ? no.3

Some of my posts dissapear, but on the board it said that someone posted. When I post again it will suddenly appear. This happen when it nears the 15 mark for a new page. Ever heard of it. 2 of my users informed me of this.

Then ? no.4

Is there a sorta real-time chat that goes with YaBB?

Then I just want to say that this is the best forum I have ever used..... WELL DONE!!!! can't wait for the final release of YaBB2 !!!!!

To expand upon what AK108 said, and correct him in one instance:
1)  Since that function is the result of a mod, you should really discuss your issues at BoardMod
2)  The mod you are looking for is called Advanced IM Box 2.0
3)  Yes, this was a well-documented bug with earlier versions of YaBB.  I don't know if anyone ever figured out what caused it (except that it had something to do with larger topics).  I remember that it had to do with the wrong post count being stored in the message's data files (I don't remember off the top of my head which file that info is stored in, but it might be the txt file associated with that message).  If you open up the correct file and add 1 or 2 to the post count (depending on how many messages go missing before they magically appear on the next page), that should fix it.
4)  There is a shoutbox mod and a chat mod for YaBB 1.x.  One of those two might be what you're looking for.

You should always perform a complete back-up before making any changes or modifications to your forums.

How Did I Find Yabb?

I was running an online forum using the script from Matt's Archive and I hated not having a system that forced a logon and a username.  So I went trolling the web and found YaBB.

Having never attempted to install something like this, I was a little on the worried side.  But, it went fairly well, and I MODDED the hell out of it.  And haven't looked back yet.

Now I am running YaBB 2.0 and only hope more MODS will be written for it because I do miss some of the old features, as do my members.  But for the most part, it's great!

Hi everyone, I am rather new here as you can tell.

I am from Northern California from George Lucas's hometown.

I am still exploring what I should use, but it is very interesting to read the comments from the users. áEveryone has me almost convinced because all posts I have read seem very satisfied with YaBB.  I have already downloaded YaBB.  á Cheesy

I live in Gary Indiana, USA

I first found YaBB when i was going to start my own project, then decided i better take a look at whats out there so i google searched for open source forum software as such and found YaBB. I liked it soo much from the start i decided to take a part in it as well. I actually started out with tripodYaBB, converting mods to work with tripodYaBB writing new TripodYaBB mods as well as helping with the whole tripod project. Then it got endless, tripod does not support many features making it very limited so i got involved with regular ol' YaBB. Ive wrote a couple mods for YaBB and currently working on converting some mods for YaBB 2.1.

I'm from Wolverhampton, England, UK.

I found YaBB by chance and bought it home, fed it, nurtured it and gave it support when it needed it. I have to say, YaBB has now grown into what it is today. Very handsome with a lot of cool outfits and it's also a fast runner.

I was looking up some stuff about proboards on wikipedia, and it said that it was a remotely hosted forum system which used no databases, similar to other forum like yabb.... and my interest was sparked  Grin

Hey Y'all!!!

YaBB is so cool - I don't know squat about programing in HTML or PERL or whatever, but I am making great progress feeling my way around setting up a new forum. áI am the Founder and current President of the U.S. Monoski Association, and will be using YaBB to create a forum for our members at www.usmonoski.org. áConsidering the complexity of this task and my utter inadequacy to take it on, I am amazed that so far I've had only a few minor problems in installing everything, and they were quickly resolved...

Just need to spend some time testing/hardening everything, and need to move some folders around so it's not quite so hackable. áOn that note, if anyone wanted to take the time to give really detailed, idiot-proof step-by-step instructions for moving the data folders to a secure location, and what you then need to change in which files because you did that, it would be super! áI don't know my .htaccess from my .<uknowwhat>...

Thanks to all involved with this amazing project. áPower to the people baby!!!

2. I found YaBB lurking at another forum which used it. I liked it, I tried it, and been using it ever since! Wasn't too hard to install, not too hard to support, and the support community here is awesome for helping out on the rare occasion I've run into any installation or conversion problems.

Hi, I am from Mississippi, and found this Forum and YaBB when researching BBS for the Mac OSX operating system. Works great so far. Started with YaBB 1.4 and have moved on to YaBB 2.1, thanks for the great work.
