perhaps a simplified set of instructions AND the converter from phpBB could be sent to cpanel to be included in the next update of cpanel? It would surely be a great help to their customers?

When the Converter 1.0 is out and ready for general use, then I will polish up the documentation and do other things to make it easier to use.

Until then, I don't want to do it, because it's still in beta. It would give a bad impression since the conversion is still somewhat rough and error-prone.

@QCTuners.com: There are known bugs with the conversion in Beta 4. However, if you are willing to try to get it working, you'll need to use a FTP client to upload the files. You'll need to "chmod" the files of the converter. This is usually done by right clicking on the file after you upload it in your FTP client.

Here's a simple list of chmods for just phpBB2 conversion:
Mode: Files, Directories
777: Converted/, Work/, Input/, Output/, Modules/, Modules/Math
755: converter.pl, Input/phpBB2.pl, Output/YaBB2.pl, Modules/Math/Fleximal.pm

If you want to try, then please let me know. Tell me if you've been able to do this, or if you have problems. I may be able to help if you tell me the problems.

i really wish I knew what you are talking about.

I have a way to ftp the folders/files to my server. do i just upload them onto the server anywhere. or do they go into a certain spot?

Also i am lost with the CHMOD, I see I can right click on the folder and go to the properties/CHMOD but i dont know what I have to do to it.

You need to upload them to your cgi-bin, usually.

About the chmods: You should have 9 or 12 checkboxes. chmod 777 means enabling all the ones marked "read", all of the ones marked "write", and all the ones marked "execute". chmod 755 means to check all the ones marked "read", and enable "write" and "execute" for the owner and group.

OK so I tryed it and got this error:

"Software error:
Unable to connect to the database given. Please check your information again. at /home/qctuners/public_html/cgi-bin/Input/phpBB2.pl line 84.
For help, please send mail to the webmaster (webmaster@qctuners.com), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. "

Is this something i did. where do I find the phpBB2.pl file

I changed the files to 777 as you said but only saw the converter.pl to 755. I havn't seen any of the other files. Can someone help?

Did you put in the correct username, password, dbserver, and other info?

Did you include the http:// part of the database server? Don't do that.

I've copied the converter code into my cgi-bin in to a convert directory but when I try to run it I get an internal server error.

Could anyone help?

link is here

Thanks

I presumed you had to put the program in the cgi-bin directory under the yabb folder.

I have got another CGI-Bin folder in my public_html.  I've put it in there under a convert directory as well but get the same Internal Server Error 500.

http://www.afunnyoldgame.co.uk/yabb/cgi-bin/converter.pl

http://www.afunnyoldgame.co.uk/cgi-bin/converter.pl

Like I said though, same error under both.  I'd prefer to start using yaBB but I'm new to web design and may be being a little slow on the uptake  Huh mayb have to stick with phpBB.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Did you get YaBB2 working? If not, go do that first, and that will probably tell you what is wrong with the converter.

Yeah Yabb is working fine on the server.

Which directory does the converter need to be run from.

I have a CGI-Bin in Public_html.  I have it in there at the moment, just get an error 500 though.

looks like you might not have chmodded the files or used ascii to upload that file?

Possibly.  What do I need to do?  I uploaded the files using filezilla.  What is involved in chmodding?

You should've done chmodding in the YaBB install process. Basically, you should be able to right click on the file/directory and click an entry such as "chmod" or perhaps "permissions".

Files have full access but still get the Error 500.  Perhaps it's just me.

I'll stick with phpBB for the time being, it's obvioulsy above my head  Sad

Did you put in a cgi-bin directory (if your server has one)?
