Re: YaBB Universal Converter [Beta 4]
Hi, im trying to convert my small phpBB forum to YaBB and so far im so lost here... Is there a step by step tutorial on how to do it? All i have from the old forum is a .sql back-up file with all my members and messages. I downloaded this converter and uploaded all the dirs and a converter.pl file to my www.sitename.com/forum/cgi-bin/ dir and tryed to run the converter.pl file from my browser. Got a 500 server error. Did i upload the convert files into the right dir?

It's been a while since a feature release. Here's Beta 4, with UBB.classic support. It should also fix some bugs in phpBB2.

Please test it out if you can. Let me know how it goes!

I know this is way down the road  Wink, but I have an antique ubb classic 7 board that I want to convert to YaBB.  I have started the process, but is chokes as it works its way thru converting members when it encounters a member number/file that no longer exists.  Is there a way to tell it to ignore and continue instead od die ?  I am not a Perl programmer so was not sure of how to modify this construct correctly:

     open($fh, "<$CONFIG{'memberdir'}/$file.cgi") || die "Can't open $CONFIG{'memberdir'}/$file.cgi: $!";

TIA,
Dan

Re: YaBB Universal Converter [Beta 4]
Change the 'die' to 'return' and it might work, but I'm not 100% sure.

Re: YaBB Universal Converter [Beta 4]
Thanks Matt.....I went another route while waiting and found that if I created the missing files with dummy content I could get past that.  I have completed the entire conversion process, but now am confused that after having done all of that successfully, and doing all the required index rebuilds, I still see only those that were created with the initial install !  Am I missing a step somewhere ?  It worked a really long time  Undecided, but see no fruits of its labor.
Thanks! Dan

Used this a long time ago, if I remember you move the contents from the converted folder into there respective folders of your installation.
Edit: run the maintenance / rebuild functions when finished.
Someone should clarify this sometime soon

Re: YaBB Universal Converter [Beta 4]
Having a problem with the "Rebuild Members List" where it is tripping on the name "Unable to open ./Members/SCOTLAND_FOREVER!!!.vars".  I have cleared the memberlist.txt and memberinfo.txt of this name, but can't find where else this exists that I am still tripping on.

Re: YaBB Universal Converter [Beta 4]
All right, I see not only do I have an issue with the one user with " !!! " in their name, but also users who use a " ' " in their name.  Is there somewhere on the board I can configure that this is allowable, or will all these users in the current UBB Classic board need to modifiy their names to a new naming convention ?  TIA, Dan

Re: YaBB Universal Converter [Beta 4]
The REAL question is "What will be the effect on my new YaBB forum if I allow it?"

It appears to be a disallowed character, and YaBB is highly dependent on regular expressions.  So parsing problems are probably out there.

I'm looking for the allowable character list.  You would be best to CONVERT/SUBSTITUTE the disallowed characters, I expect.

Be Back soon

Re: YaBB Universal Converter [Beta 4]
answer:

There is an invalid character detected in the User ID field.

Valid Characters are Letters, Numbers, Spaces and ( [ ] # % + , - | . : = ? @ ^ _ )

Good Luck

Re: YaBB Universal Converter [Beta 4]
Still having problems after having cleared the SCOTLAND_FOREVER!!! record out of memberlist.txt and memberinfo.txt.  There must be a remnant somewhere else, as I get the following error when trying to to rebuild the Member List:

Unable to open ./Members/SCOTLAND_FOREVER!!!.vars
Verbose: No such file or directory

TIA,
Dan
