The Pref/Ranks2.txt file appears to contain who's an admin. Do you have more then one admin on your forum?

Thanks s_m_b for your quick response Cheesy.

Somehow I can only get step 4 to work if I import messages from one specific user; admin

The contents of Ranks2.txt is then something like:
Administrator => {
name = 'Imported members'
members = (admin)
}

As soon as I add more members things go wrong.
I have included my set of test data. Your help is much appreciated.

And another question:
The output of the conversion is written to the converted folder. How do I get that into YaBB? Can these files just be copied into the corresponding YaBB folders? How about merging it with already existing YaBB data?

First, about the error: I'll check and see what the deal is. It's probably a mistake in the YaBB out driver... I'll post a new one when I can.

Ok, if you have a NEW install of YaBB, you can copy the complete output structure.

If you want to merge, this *should* work:

First, remove the forum.master file and forum.control file from the Converted dir.
Now, you need to determine for each individual board if you need to merge the board or the topics. You need to check to see if the board ID is used in your YaBB forum. If you have the board ID used in both places, you add topics. If not, you add boards. They're both pretty easy, you just need to know which.

For instance, if I have the board IDs "cc", "test", and "announce" on the converted part, and "cc" on the YaBB board, you add topics for the "cc" board and add boards for "test" and "announce".

If you need to add certain boards, then create the boards like normal before copying the messages.

Now, copy all the messages over. Hopefully you won't have conflicts, as the message IDs are time-based.

Finally, do all the recount/rebuild maintaince tools in YaBB.

Hopefully this was fairly easy. Good luck.

Well...I got it working.
If all users are members of the administrator group it seems to work.  Huh
Thanks for your explanation of "merging" the files... no problems there.

Anyway, I'll be ready to get YaBB up and running soon!
Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated!

Hmmmm... I bet I know where the problem lies then. I'll test it when I can.

One more thing... PMs weren't converted yet. Don't worry, though, that'll be added soon, and we can merge the PM files too Wink

Here's Beta 1.1. Yes, I can use fractional Beta numbers. Tongue

Well, no luck with most of the stuff yet. But I added a pre-run step for the drivers, and it stores their data in files.

s_m_b: If you are still wanting to port your converter to this, take a look to see if this method will work for you.

I plan to add more to my drivers before even Beta 2. However, it should be usable if you want to convert from Eblah with the basic information.

Please tell me what you want to see before a 1.0. I don't have much time to work on projects now, but I will get this done, and I'd like to know what you want in this.

Certainly want to try it at least. I found another couple of optimisations for the setup script anyway, but the main thing coming out of this is getting the initial parameters right, and allowing the script to compensate for data that's in variable form or needs patching together  Huh.

Overall, My converter is finished for its version, but I'm testing on its 'native' data to flush any odd bugs. Converting the messages has been a major pain, simply because DBI has some horrifying limitations on what it can handle for fairly ordinary sql scripting. I'm hoping this is just down to having to use ODBC (would love to find an ADO driver instead but there is so much stuff missing for Windows within CPAN  Roll Eyes ) - can't handle UNION (not even tried temp tables yet!), can't handle  datetime unless you bind all the variables before hand................

On top of this, I've been full of cold for a week, so serious concentration has been out the window (not an auspicious start for proving myself here!)

Take your time. Just found some time to do this so you could look at it when you got a chance. Don't worry about proving yourself with devving, either. CVS code is currently waiting for some fixes to be checked in, so it'd be difficult to do much anyway.

True. But .1 is 1/10, so it's still fractional. Tongue

Now, to announce my roadmap for Converter Beta 22/7ths... Tongue
