Now that you mention it, that's exactly it. Each board is passed in the topic list to tell the converter when we're switching boards. This was needed in the Eblah converter, but isn't in phpBB2, but I had to keep it.

Anyway, I think I found the issue with the Messages. The WorkInProgress file wasn't getting read correctly. Now, I'm making it so you don't need to click the next link so many times. Expect a Beta 2.2 that should work for you later on Wink

Odd. The converter seems to want to try to convert 30 more topics then you listed. Perhaps those are from the hidden forums.

I have 436 members, so it looks like that worked more or less.

The boards converted (in the summary files) so I have all 30 of them.

Looks like most of it is there, just a bug with the topics. I'll get back to you with this when I figure it out.

I've not physically counted the topics to verify that number as that would take too long....

interesting that it is out by 30 topics and I have 30 boards, that "could" be an error of +1 topic per board?

thanks for all your help so far!

Sounds good.

One question though: Can you tell me how many Boards, Categories, Members, and Messages your forum is supposed to have?

yup feel free to do whatever you need....

all the data was originally converted off of ezboard, and is still there if required so dont worry if it breaks anything... once everything's working properly I can write a "how to convert from ezboard to phpBB2" guide and then people will be able to convert from ezboard to YaBB2 via phpBB2 which will hopefully be of help to some people

I was able to make it through the conversion process, fixing a few bugs on the way. I had problems with your Boards and Messages, so I'll mess with those, ok?

i suppose that it could be size being the issue.... the whole database is showing up as being 167.15 MB

Thanks. I got the zip and removed it from your post (since it has your DB server's name and such in it).

Mind if I test run from my computer against your server?

@Nina: Yep. Once it's out of beta, it'll have instructions.

@dan: Can you upload your Work directory here (use a .zip)? It might be a problem there since it doesn't happen until the 3rd step.

I just need help testing it on various servers until then. It *shouldn't* touch any of part of your phpBB (or other forum software) database, so it's relatively safe.

here is a zip of my work directory for when it doesnt work (eg BIG forum)

tested on a second phpBB2 board which has only 1 thread with 3 posts in it (using a separate mysql database) and the exact same error happens in the same place so I don't think that size is an issue here

I actually discovered that unless you delete the files in the "work" directory putting different options in makes no difference as it remembers what you filled in the first time round, so after doing that I successfully managed to convert the test forum which has three posts, so the converter DOES work on small forums... now to see IF i can tweak it to do my big forum

hi Nina, the version that I'm trying to use doesnt work for me because of some problem somewhere with the way my server is set up, that doesnt necessarily mean that it wont work for you...

if you want to see what the things it will ask you are you can have a look at http://yabbadabbadoo.funchat-forums.co.uk/cgi-bin/converter/converter.pl which is where mine is uploaded...

you need to select phpBB2.pl in the first option, leave the second option as it is then click use these converters

the next screen asks about your phpBB2 database all the info that you need to give it is:

Server:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Database Name:
Prefix:
Database Type: MYSQL

apart from the port details (which most probably can be always left how it is anyway) you should already know the other settings as they are the same as what you supplied to phpBB2 when you installed it.

hope that this helps.

mine doesnt work after stage 2 because of an internal server error
