Hi WAGGS,

SMF is invisible to search engines.....is Yabb?

With Y2.x, if your forum and it's boards are publicly visible to unregistered guests... then it is visible to search engines.  If a guest cannot see a particular private/membergroup-only board on your Y2.x forum, then the search engines will not see it either.

Hope that helps.

There's no SMF converter, so there's no chance of that Wink

It is highly unlikely that this converter will destroy any board. But it is always safest to make sure that users are unable to access the board while converting, as they could make the conversion fail or corrupt the converted data. Also, you shouldn't run maintenance controls on a YaBB board except when in maintenance mode, for the same reasons.

So will this destroy my SMF board?

I plan to make one eventually. I don't have time right now, unfortunately, as YaBB 2.2 is using all my programming time.

Will there be any chance of an official converter from SMF to YaBB?

Nope. If you get lost, show me what you have.

I've already done the conversion.  It's been tedious, but successful.  Phew!

After converting, you'll need to do a few things. Note: Do not try this on a live board!

1) Copy/Move all converted posts to the Messages/ folder in YaBB.
2) Copy/Move all the .txt files in Boards/ to the YaBB Boards/ folder.
3) Combine the forum.control and forum.master files. You'll need to merge some of the arrays in forum.master.
4) Run all rebuild tools
5) Upload the files to your live board

However, the phpBB2 converter still has some flaws. If you encounter any of them, let me know, and I'll work with you.

Hi there....thank you for the quick reply.

#3...you got me on that one.  Is there a reference for that procedure?

Everything else, I'm ok with.

Hello,

I just "inherited" an SMF 1.1 RC1 board
http://andybumatai.com/forum/index.php

Currently, I run this Yabb 2.1
http://www.superman808.com

From a previous message, I gather that we would have to double convert SMF ->>> phbb ->>> yabb 2.1

That's fine...but how do you import/integrate the previous SMF board into the the Yabb 2.1 board?

Thanks in advance
