Convet from SMF?
Is there a way to convert from SMF to YaBB? I would like too. I mainly need members and posts switched, Loss of passwords or PMs will not be a big deal. Thank you.

Re:
I don't think there is an SMF input driver built into the converter yet.

However, I believe that there is an SMF to phpBB converter available from phpBB's web site.  Once you convert from SMF to phpBB, you can then use the YaBB Universal Converter to convert from phpBB to YaBB.

You should always perform a complete back-up before making any changes or modifications to your forums.

They used to be fairly similar, but there's significant differences now.

Re: Convet from SMF?
Hello,

I just "inherited" an SMF 1.1 RC1 board
http://andybumatai.com/forum/index.php

Currently, I run this Yabb 2.1
http://www.superman808.com

From a previous message, I gather that we would have to double convert SMF ->>> phbb ->>> yabb 2.1

That's fine...but how do you import/integrate the previous SMF board into the the Yabb 2.1 board?

Thanks in advance

Re: Convet from SMF?
After converting, you'll need to do a few things. Note: Do not try this on a live board!

1) Copy/Move all converted posts to the Messages/ folder in YaBB.
2) Copy/Move all the .txt files in Boards/ to the YaBB Boards/ folder.
3) Combine the forum.control and forum.master files. You'll need to merge some of the arrays in forum.master.
4) Run all rebuild tools
5) Upload the files to your live board

However, the phpBB2 converter still has some flaws. If you encounter any of them, let me know, and I'll work with you.

Hi there....thank you for the quick reply.

#3...you got me on that one.  Is there a reference for that procedure?

Everything else, I'm ok with.

I've already done the conversion.  It's been tedious, but successful.  Phew!

Re: Convet from SMF?
I plan to make one eventually. I don't have time right now, unfortunately, as YaBB 2.2 is using all my programming time.

Re: Convet from SMF?
There's no SMF converter, so there's no chance of that Wink

It is highly unlikely that this converter will destroy any board. But it is always safest to make sure that users are unable to access the board while converting, as they could make the conversion fail or corrupt the converted data. Also, you shouldn't run maintenance controls on a YaBB board except when in maintenance mode, for the same reasons.
