Re: Moved topics in Message Index.
I like Carsten's change except for how moved topics are brighter/more visible than normal topics.

That is of course a matter of opinion and easily changed in the ".movedbg" class in the style sheet - the yellow color is just for the example.

Nice change - except for removing the topic starter and especially the 4 column spanning. From a layout point of view it's  messing up the page imho. I've attached a modest suggestion to make moved topics stand out without spoiling the layout.

The whole point of my layout for the moved topic is to 'change' it ! Spanning the cols breaks the topic out of looking exactly like any other topic, so yo can see it without having to use an alternative colour in the row.
With the 'moved' status, the line becomes only a marker to where the topic has moved, which negates any need to show the topic starter or the other info, since that is displayed where the topic has migrated to.
Not having the 'new' icon, and using Jet Li's suggested message icons are the only tings I'd change, since to go for just the colour change on the row kills the whole idea I was aiming at!
Some ideas work, some don't, I guess.

Re: Moved topics in Message Index.
@smb: Would it be possible to store the moved text directly in the subject? It would save a file open, and that'd be nice.

I'm thinking something like this (store it in the [m] tag)
Code Select All
[m totopic=number by=username]
or [m toboard=board by=username]

Re: Moved topics in Message Index.
Don't see why not. Since the only purpose of the #moved# link should be to jump to the new board, I suppose the less it has to do, the better.

Re: Moved topics in Message Index.
Done. I'm pretty satisfied with how this turned out. It maintains compatibility with older style topics, using smb's code. But if the newer style [m] tag is found, that is used instead of opening the new file.

New Sources/MessageIndex.pl, Sources/MoveTopic.pl, and Sources/SplitSplice.pl in CVS now. Smiley

Re: Moved topics in Message Index.
A bunch of new files in CVS, fixing issues with [m] versus the new version:
All in Sources/:
BoardIndex.pl
Display.pl
RSS.pl
Recent.pl
Search.pl
SplitSplice.pl

Re: Moved topics in Message Index.
I am reviving this issue (didn't even see it the first time), because there still is unsatisfaction against the present layout.

I'm slowly starting to like Carsten's idea. It should look like either closely to that or that row should be just one cell, without the "last post" column (simply because it contains "false" info), a bit like I would have done it in this example.

...
(again, nevermind the proportions of the cells, it looks distorted because the html copied as is from this forum)

Throw your ideas in, ladies and playboys?

Re: Moved topics in Message Index.
I like your idea much better than Carsten's, even. 1 column for the information would be wonderful.

I'll try to implement it if I can get an agreement of people soon.

Re: Moved topics in Message Index.
Ok - now we have been looking at my suggested layout for about a week - guess it's time to have a look at the one suggested by Alexik...

New MessageIndex.pl, default/MessageIndex.template and yabb21/MessageIndex.template in cvs now.
