phpBB to YaBB Convert

I  seen several topics on this here  but still cannot seem to get a clear picture on how thi s convert function is supposed to work.

My phpBB install and my Test YaBB install folders are in the Public_html folder. (on a Linex Server using phpBB 2.0.19)

Do you install the converter.pl files in any cgi-bin folder or only in the YaBB directory ?

I understand you need to change permissions, I changed averything to 777 for ease

When I try to run the converter.pl file i get this message

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@theblackwatch.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Is there any other files that need to be oved into the cgi=bin folder ?

Thanks

Dave

I played with this for hours lol

here is what I have done so far

Permissions are all set to 777

I have edited the converet.pl file as below, but I still get a server error

I have the files in my cgi-bin folder located off the public_html folder

$basedir = 'http://mysite.org/cgi-bin';
$basedir =~ s~\/converter\.pl\Z~~;

# Set the paths. We'll guess at them.
$inputdir = "$basedir/Input/phpBB2.pl";
$outputdir = "$basedir/Output/YaBB.pl";
$workdir = "$basedir/Work";
$convertdir = "$basedir/Convert";
$converteddir = "$basedir/Converted";
$scripturl = 'http://mysite.org/cgi-bin/converter.pl';

can anyone see what maybe wrong with this script?

Thanks in advance

$basedir is a directory, not a URL. Did you try it before modifying the file? It tries to autodetect its path. You can also set $basedir to '.' in many cases.

Yes I tried the default converter.pl it did not work

I tried changing the

$basedir to '.'

and to

$basedir = '/path/to/converter.pl';

neither worked as well

So I tried this to no avasil

$basedir = '/cgi-bin/l';

Use "/home/theblack/cgi-bin/converter" or "/home/theblack/htdocs/converter". Replace "converter" with the converter's directory name.

I tried this ,still no luck

$basedir = '/home/theblack/cgi-bin/converter';
$basedir =~ s~\/converter\.pl\Z~~;

# Set the paths. We'll guess at them.
$inputdir = "$basedir/Input";
$outputdir = "$basedir/Output";
$workdir = "$basedir/Work";
$convertdir = "$basedir/Convert";
$converteddir = "$basedir/Converted";
$scripturl = 'http://home/theblack/cgi-bin/converter/converter.pl';

just for the heck of it I created teh converter folder inside the cgi-bin directory so it looks like this

/ public_html / cgi-bin / converter / (Current Folder)

Convert  777
Converted  777
Input  777
Modules  777
Output  777
Work  777
Create New File
Fleximal.pm 14 k 0776
converter.pl 21 k 0777
readme.txt 2 k 0644

I went into each sub folder and set permissions to 776

I can't do anything from the converter with regards to paths.

Try setting $basedir to "/home/theblack/public_html/"
Set $scripturl to "converter.pl" (this one should always work)

Smiley Well we made some progress

www.theblackwatch.org/converter.pl

program starts now, but after selecting phpBB to YaBB and clicking on Convert
all I get is a blank page

Here is my converter.pl setup now

$basedir = '/home/theblack/public_html';
$basedir =~ s~\/converter\.pl\Z~~;

# Set the paths. We'll guess at them.
$inputdir = "$basedir/Input";
$outputdir = "$basedir/Output";
$workdir = "$basedir/Work";
$convertdir = "$basedir/Convert";
$converteddir = "$basedir/Converted";
$scripturl = 'http://home/theblack/public_html';

The file runs from within the public_html directory fine,

Do you have to do anything with the input and output pl files, other than set permissions ?

$scripturl is still wrong. Unlike the rest, it's a URL, not a path. This should work:
Code
Select All
$scripturl = 'converter.pl';

I hope it goes well. If it doesn't, just remember that I will be working on a new version in a little while, and I greatly appreciate any bug reports that can be given.

Ok I think it's fine

Good enough that I can shut down the phpbb forum and get going with the YaBB

Good feedback from the members on the new Board by the Way

Thanks

Dave
