YaBB2 chmod - 777 or 755?

Codex says /cgi-bin/yabb2 should be set to 777. Quick guide says 755. Which is right?

Also, /languages/english - codex mentions changing *.txt files, but no other. Quick start says to change all other files under languages/english to 777. Which is right?

TIA!

All folders, js, pl, pm files should be 755, all other files can be 666.

Thanks, Captain. This would differ yet again from what either the codex or quick setup say, in some instances, but I'll take your word for it.

Yes... 777 is a wide open permission... we don't recommend it.. (for example.. the lanquage files are just text files... some can be edited in the Admin Center.... so they need to be read and possibly written... but they are not a program that will run (an executable and 777 would allow a file to run as an executuable) but the forum will run with that permission... There are files ... that would work with 644 ... but why quabble..   It is easier if we just specify two.. 755 & 666 ... less confusing.. and will work.
Edit... and we have supported users who are on servers that forbid that CHMOD (777) and if used will cause an Internal (500) Error.

Hi Cap'n,

I'm helping a friend get YaBB2 installed, and the file he provided me was YaBB_2.zip.  Is this an older version?  It looks like the newest version is YaBB2.1, but that seems to have been built in 2005 - is this project still activly supported?

Also, regarding chmod, does the rule above apply to all the contents of both of these folders?
website/public_html/cgi-bin/yabb2/
website/public_html/yabbfiles/

Thanks,
Mike

Yes... the latest version is yabb 2.1.1

Yes... ALL folders, images, pl, pm, and js are 755, all others 666

Note:  uploading is VERY important with the Transfer ... ALL files should be transferred as ascii, EXCEPT image files, which should be transferred as Binary.

Is the file permission setting listed here still true for YaBB 2.3?
