I at least know which registrar has which domains and I never simply click on links in emails. (Right now what's filling my mailbox is notices allegedly from Facebook I need to change my password. So NOT happening, especially when the email isn't even being sent to the once listed for Facebook. Sad )

As near as I can figure, GoDaddy (or someone purporting to be GoDaddy) †is trying to get me to renew with them instead of my actual registrar. I had this happen to a client some years ago - they got a letter reminding them to renew and so sent a check, only it wasn't from their actual registrar. They nearly lost their domain. They did lose their money.

that was bad hope they did not lose much.

This is a very common practice, which is one of the reasons to have your domains in a high security locked status however your registrar does that.

lucky for me any transfers of doms from my registrar I have to start that from registrars user control panel and get a warning if someone is trying to start a transfer if I did not start it from the control panel.

I pay $15 in the United States each year for each of our domains, but you can get much lower prices elsewhere.

for most of my domains i pay about £8.38 each every two years.
that's why i was abit taking back with how much yabbdirectory.org is going to cost and it is not even a high hit domain doing some checking as it is less than < 200 unique ip hits a month.

NameCheap is cheap. And I haven't had any problems with them (keeping my fingers crossed.) But since all my domains are coming up for renewal with them, I've been getting GoDaddy renewal demands. Huh Spam scare tactics. Angry

from my 123-reg I get a email at a three month period then one at 30 days then one at 7 days and one on the day but only on one's i don't have auto renewal on for but there not demands just hey there your domain xx is going to expire in xx days.

(I assume we're talking about getting the domain.) If you can get it for nearly free, go for it. We can always use it to put up a list of YaBB resources and YaBB forums.

no not nearly free £23.98 GBP or $37.34 USD and its been abot the same for any domain name services I check.
