Spam filter. script method examples
It would IMO be really helpful if people provided examples of how they have used the spam filter, with a number of standard expressions to block: drugs, porn, viagra, cialis, gambling, poker, poke mon We all get the same sort of junk.

Likewise the feature that blocks script methods comes with a warning something like "The surgeon general has determined that this feature may be hazardous to your health." I am sure however that it is useful, and if a set of defaults or example is provided, it will help people beat the script bandits.

Re: Spam filter. script method examples
That thread, was exactly what inspired me to ask this question. Most people (believe it or not) do not know regex very well, and think that Unix are the fellows who served the Sultan.

Surely there are people who actually use the feature, and who have built and tested elaborate spam filters that can benefit all of us.

Can we get a longer list of worked examples and/or a brief manual that explains what to do for people who do not know regex.
EG:
would
1~;v(.???)ra
eliminate all posts that had Viagra and in all its Spam covers, or 1, 2 or 3 instances?
Remember that a single mistake will render the code worthless, or ban a lot of innocent posts.
That is why it is important to have a tested list that people can build on. Results of regex,  like results of search and replace, are often not what you think they are going to be, especially if the person writing it is a bear of little brain.

Thanks.

Re: Spam filter. script method examples
Right about in the center of the post referenced above there is a link provided that explains the various snytax you can use with regex and the operations that result from them.

If I'm understanding what you are looking for, it's a "safe" filter; one that filters spam but doesn't impact regular users.  There is no such animal.  ALL filters like this filter everything equally, so one built to filter out every possible variant of "Viagra" is also going to filter out the user named Joe Viadra when he tries to register or do anything with his name on the forum.  Depending upon the filter parameters, i.e. what number you set for occurances, it might ban him immediately or on his 2nd, 3rd, or fourth use of his name, whatever you set up.

It would be virtually impossible to cover every situation, that's why the caution statement.
