Re: Choose what features we added to YaBB 2.3!
Looking forward to the new update, even more so if the 3 things I voted for (extended profiles, sub boards, and limit image size) are included Cheesy

Beyond 2.3, what is the expected timeline for much anticipated V3.  I know its probably not set, but there must be an approximate plan?  Thinking in very generic terms, eg, first half of next year, 2nd half, 2010 etc?

I am interested in dates as our forum is hitting some performance problems occasionally - I understand V2.3 will help a lot in several respects, but I guess V3 will be the big performance update?

There is no way for us to make date estimates for YaBB 3 at this time.

YaBB 2.5
Re: Choose what features we added to YaBB 2.3!
Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and votes.  We hope 2.3 will be pleasing to everyone.  The following features will be implemented in 2.3 (as you can see here on this forum):

- Image resize settings for post, attachment, and signature images
- Greybox background option for images
- "noimage.gif" shown if image cannot be loaded
- Advanced split and splice, allowing you to delete the split post, copy posts, and move them anywhere
- Integrated spellchecker for posting
- Quick Reply box on topic display and message index pages
- Ability to highlight any text in a post and quote it
- Email option to administrator when a new member registers
- Extended profiles to allow more field in the profile
- Expand/Collapse on board index uses AJAX to be quicker and save on bandwidth
- Member ability to upload their own avatars (settings by membergroup)
- Category image setting for categories
- Multiple attachments allowed in posts
- Sorting option on attachments log
- File extension icon next to each attachment
- File size and download count shown next to attachments
- Backup system to backup the forum's data and download or email it
- Showcase Poll for the main board index
- Pre-selected smilies option
- Top of Page button added to all pages
- Pie chart option for display of poll results
- Ability to reverse topic posts and topic summary order (newest first)

The only thing in the poll that was not added is sub-(nested) boards.  This feature will be much more feasible for a database system as planned in YaBB 3.

I can understand not being able to make firm commitments, I guess it was more reassurance that I and other YaBB users were after, that we do not return to the long stagnation periods we had with v2.1, now that since v2.2, development appears to be right back on track Smiley

All excellent work, and the development cycle in recent YaBB has restored my faith in the product Smiley

Selfishly, I'm disheartened by the sub boards as it was something one of my YaBB forums really needs, but hopefully that will come with or shortly after v3 Smiley, lets hope we don't have to wait too long for it  Undecided

Great work by the developers, lets not forget the time and effort they put in  Cool

Re: Choose what features we added to YaBB 2.3!
Any chance at all that someone will make a sub forums mod for 2.3 until yabb 3 is released?

Re: Choose what features we added to YaBB 2.3!
Looking forward to the next version ... much of what is being included sounds very good.

I was glad to see that one of the two most invasive, frequent, and extensive mods that gets added on will now be included internally, in the form of Extended Profiles.

I was wondering about the other most invasive, frequent and extensive mod ... YaMS. Recommendations are always to install these two first, anyway. And even then, you have to be sure you install the two of them in the right order, much of the time.

(Don't take this the wrong way ... Carsten and Michael have always done great work in getting these two up to speed very quickly for the new releases, and in the past have worked very hard to find ways to keep them compatible with many, many other mods out there. I just figured it might solve a lot of the headaches of getting mods to work with each other to have both of these two massive systems already built in.)

Any thoughts on this? Or was YaMS added in one of the most recent additions that I missed actually hearing about? YaMS has always been one of the first two I have added, and I know lots of other people have too. If there isn't any interest in this, I was just wondering about the reason. (Sure its good, just wondering what it is.)
