Seems you have an issue with too many non-members browsing. What is your 'Members Online' threshold set to, the default 15m? If longer, set it to 15m so the system doesn't have to waste additional processing power maintaining that list (its quite a performance hit).

Your forum size doesn't look that big that the (virtual) hardware you have should struggle.

I run www.omegaowners.com on a virtual machine allocated 1 vCPU, and 1Gb RAM (dedicated/reserved though), and unix loads rarely go into double figures.

Sadly, my YaBB forum has had to migrate to SMF, so I can't say I have one of the largest YaBB's out there.

The old site still lives, readonly, to catch links and old search engine hits at http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl and finally finished up with the following stats:

The forum contains a total of 1173742 Posts within 93053 Topics.
The most recent post is Re: URGENT: Checks for all members (25. Sep 2011 at 19:23).
There are a total of 11271 registered members.

The most members ever online was 84 on 28. Mar 2010 at 21:54.
The most guests ever online was 114 on 22. Aug 2010 at 16:20.
The most search engines ever online was 328 on 06. Apr 2008 at 01:19.

For those interested, it ran on a Debian 5 VM, allocated 1 vCPU and 1Gb dedicated memory.  The physical host was a HP Proliant runnig ESXi 4.1.  The bandwidth was provided via a Zen Internet ADSL line, legacy 2Mbit down, 256kbit up.  Static content served by Dreamhost.

Re: Biggest YaBBs in Internet
At least all the old information is there to be looked at and get search engine referrals. Too many admins just junk the old stuff, not realizing that the one piece of info that was being looked for was in an older post.

Re: Biggest YaBBs in Internet
I don't have have one of the largest, but I'll put our ratio against anybody. I run a private forum that has had no more than 110 members at any time. I converted to another software recently (mainly for the mobile access). Right now the number of posts is 337,000. I'd say that through deletion of old threads and so forth, all time for five years is close to 600,000.

Maybe there's going to be a post about the smallest so the YaBB forum that I didn't convert and currently run can be included.  Smiley

Re: Biggest YaBBs in Internet
The Laser Pointer Forum used to on YaBB, but according to its Site owner, YaBB could not handle more that 200 connections at the same time. This I know is a hardware problem and not a software one with YaBB.

The Laser Pointer Forum (then) had 50,000 users and 200 connections when he maxed out his server. Its now on phpBB (YUCK!) with over 100,000 users and an average of 350 connected users at anyone time.

That's f'ing big!

I suspect their stats are skewed, not over previous 15mins (the usual forum default).  The giveaway being max 26k users online, only 23k members Wink. A common trick to make forums appear bigger than they are.

In shear posts/threads, my old YaBB was larger, although only half the number of members.
