That's a good thought, there are a lot of controls that are counter-intuitive verbally.

Which probably leads to interpretation problems for second-language users/readers and in the process of building language packs.

I know I have to rethink sentences Before I translate them, to get the grammar order right for a coherent interpretation.

That's a good idea.  In fact it's a very good idea because anyone converting an older forum wouldn't have to go back in and reset every one of their board permissions.

Allowed to View permission

Why not turn it around. Instead of "permission" it should be "restrictions":

Access to view topics is restricted to:

Admins
GMods

Mods
Member Group A
Member Group B

I'm danish so i'm not completely sure 'restricted to' is the correct frase - but i guess you get the idea  Wink

Oh it's a hundred times easier to do that... but we've tuned it and retuned it, and somehow it still doesn't get the point across.  Since we are building a new version, this might be the time to eliminate the need for external comments (that are often missed even though they are in plain sight).

Isn't it easier to just add a comment below, saying something like
"If nothing is selected everyone (also Guests) can start topics, reply to topics, view topics or create polls."
?

If you think other text would be better you are welcome to post!

We have all seen the support questions having to do with "Guests can't see my boards."  And we all know that 99.9% of the time it's because something is selected in the Allowed to View permission for the Cat or Board.

So I would suggest we make it more user friendly by putting the word "Guests" in the list of available choices.  If a user clicks on Guests, it remains highlighted but as far as the code is concerned, they have selected no member groups.  Also, make it so selecting Guests removes highlighted member groups, and selecting any member group un-highlights the Guest selection.

So the Allowed to View permission choices might look like this:

Guests

Admins
GMods
Mods
Member Group A
Member Group B

An alternative might be to use the word "Everyone" in place of "Guest."
