I have long thought this needed sorting!

Even on my Y2.3!

Great job done!

I have been busy, but I agree with both Captain John and Corey - YaBB Backup belongs down in the Maintenance Section.

Off-topic BUT I'm also very happy to hear good feedback coming in from users!

I agree that any "automatic" maintenance functions (i.e. not manual maintenance mode) should display a default generic message rather than the custom manual message.

I also agree that this function should be under maintenance.

why not change the text to cover ANY maintenance ... I use:
"We are now performing Maintenance on our Forum, Check back shortly .."

Any Auto Maintenance Mode is Maintenance, installing a MOD, even backing up.

From Wiki: Software maintenance in software engineering is the modification of a software product after delivery to correct faults, to improve performance or other attributes, or to adapt the product to a modified environment

If anything ... the Backup function should be moved from Security Settings to the Maintenance Controls area on the Admin menu

When a forum with the YaBB Backup option installed properly performs that backup, the Forum is placed in Maintenance Mode. (properly - and that is what should happen)

HOWEVER - it actually presents a misleading Notice on the login page.  The message displayed is the standard maintenance message, and if any text was in the maintenance message the last time it was used, that is displayed as well.  So although you are backing up, it might say 'installing a new mod".

JonB thinks that's flat wrong.  The forum is NOT being maintained - its being backed up.  And that's what the message should say.  "The forum is being backed up" or something to that effect.  The patch could be as simple as overwriting the Maintenance message text with a "Backup" Text from either a language file or a setup option.

I know its a quibble, but my fairly savvy users react differently to "Maintenance" and "Backup".  I know cause they IM me.  How long will you be fixing things? (if its maintenance) If its backup they just wait it out usually. (My main forums take 5-6 minutes to backup each)

I think users 'like' backups and 'worry about' maintenance.
