I think I've come up with a reasonable workaround for this on IE, Safari, and Mozilla-based browsers, though it won't work for Opera since Opera fails to pick up the ALT tags.

The workaround would involve changing the ALT tags from <smileyname> to :<smileyname>: (e.g. Wink <--> :Wink:) or to <smileyname> <smileycode> (e.g. Wink <--> Wink ;)).  Then, the Mark & Quote code can do regexp replacement on the tags to insert the proper smiley code.

I haven't come up with the full code for this, but I'm working on it.

Wow, it even misses the spaces in between the words?  Eek.  I wonder if there's any other way to get this to work... not sure how the code actually works to get the selection, etc.  Maybe you can use Javascript to extract the ALT attribute... don't know.  I'll look into it I guess.

I know this problem, but I didn't find a solution, since not all browsers catch the alt-tags.
For me (Opera 10) your sentence shows up like this:

Looks like the Mark & Quote feature doesn't like smilies.  If my selected text includes a smiley, it shows up as its ALT attribute in the quoted text, rather than showing up as the proper smiley.

For example, do a Mark & Quote on the following text:
This is Smiley a test of Wink the smiley quote system. Tongue

You'll notice that they show up as "Smiley," "Wink," and "Tongue" in the quoted text.  This is because Mark & Quote is picking up the ALT tag rather than deparsing the smilies.

I'm not entirely sure how to fix this since I'm not familiar with the code used for Mark & Quote, but it should "deparse" the smilies properly so that they show up as their smiley code.  Perhaps the easiest way is to make the ALT tag for the smiley contain the proper smiley code?  That would allow everything to work without any changes to the Mark & Quote code - you'd only change the ALT tag of each smiley from its "name" to its smiley code.  If you want to retain the ALT tag the way it is, then I guess Mark & Quote needs a change.    We allow (with option enable/disable in Admin Center) to duplicate images in Quotes, But not smilies ?

Don't be confuse between Mark & Quote and Quote Feature. Grin That in Admin Center is for normal Quote, if you click Quote Button.
