I am my own host Smiley I'm running an ubuntu 10.04 server box and per chance I somehow recalled hostname look ups from back in the Redhat 4 days causing slow loads on php.... Anyway it was really just a fluke because I find it odd 2.1 doesn't need it Smiley

Cheers

Thanks for the update.

Many VPS setups are 'underparameter-ized'.  You find out when things don't work quite right, LOL. I know from experience on that one.  How did you come onto that info? (and who is your host?)

Thanks again and good luck.

Thanks for the help, I finally worked out what's causing this... you need to have " HostNameLookups on" in your virtual hosts section or it is as slow as anything. I don't know why but everything else works fine without it, just 2.4 doesn't like it either left out or set to off.

Cheers

well I still can't work out why 2.1 is way faster than 2.4? I thought It was this, but apparently not  Shocked

Is there an easy way to "rollback" from 2.4 to 2.1 or is that asking the impossible?

Cheers

How are you addressing the different VirtualHosts? i.e. what URL discriminates them?

When I was testing this locally, a thought occurred to me; I suspect a great proportion of YaBB installs are actually running in vhosts given that most are on shared Linux servers.

BTW, there is actually nothing that prevents running multiple YaBB versions or installations in the same server. Obviously the folder names must be different, and so must the cookie session values.

I have done some more testing, and it works fine if the forum is the default site on apache2, but as soon as I make it a virtual host it has the lag.

Is anyone else using virtual hosts with this issue? Even when I serve it just to a lan using dnsmasq as the name resolution it has no errors but around 4 seconds of "waiting" before it starts loading each page.

I still don't know why 2.1 works fine??

See this post http://www.yabbforum.com/community/YaBB.pl?num=1266621065/12#12

This might at least narrow down the problem using that utility

See this page for info http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314868

It's just on my home server (ubuntu 9.04 server) running out to our neighbourhood wifi (not on the internet). I have YaBB2.1 working perfectly and fast, but 2.4 is very slow to respond just like sekrapa described in the first post.

Both YaBB2.1 and 2.4 are running on the same server but different virtual_hostnames and directories of course.

I could use DYNDNS and put it on the interweb if you need me to...

edit: 2.2 works fine it's just 2.4.....

Is this a personal server or hosted ?  what's the URL to your site ?  Hard to guess what might be happening.

Do you know what is was? Mine is doing exactly that on my Apache2 Ubuntu server box on the LAN! There are no errors anywhere and it just lags up to 6 seconds before doing anything and then loads straight away.

Any ideas?

Cheers
