cannot access one of the boards on my forum

One of the boards on my forum at http://poem.org/community/2.3.1/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl

The Medium Poetry board on this forum can not be accessed.

I tried placing in maint mode and rebuilding the index etc that did not resolve the issue.

Members tell me they can get to the post by doing a search but not by clicking the link on the home index

I notice you also have a Temp Medium board.  Any chance you made the BoardIDs the same?  Note that with Boards, medium = Medium, as all IDs are processed as though they have no capital letters.  If you have one BoardID as Medium and the other medium, it won't see any difference.

Oh Eng,

I used a different name for the temp forum.

I set the temp forum up until I can figure whats up with the board in question.

   This may not have anything to do with that exact problem .. But "might"

Click on the little orange Xhtml validator icon at the very bottom of your index (main) page ... you have 71 errors and 19 warnings of problems with your forums page.

  I could access that board by clicking on the Last Post, but then had to use Next Topic to go to others, clicking on the Board Link ... hung

I reduced the number of errors as much as I could on the default template. Took off all banner ads ( it was bouncing most of those errors) ... still no joy.

I also, tried switching to the old style 2.1 template and still can not access the medium poetry board on that template either.

as it seems the same prob as this forum had http://www.yabbforum.com/community/YaBB.pl?num=1250024358/15
and that was a prob with board IDs

you can enter Medium Poetry with Last Post link
http://poem.org/community/2.3.1/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1273247209/12#12
and ues ‹ No Topic | Next Topic ›  to nav in there just now

i see that most of the BoardIDs start with lower case letter i.e: poetrymain, novice, repost. but the BoardID for Medium Poetry starts with capital case letter Medium

The Board Names don't have any effect.  The program sorts all data based on the BoardID.  What is the BoardID you are using for the old/temp Medium Poetry boards?

If the BoardID for one is Medium and the other is medium, you won't have normal access to one or the other, as they are seen as the same.  The only way to fix this, IF it is the problem, is to create a new board (with a different ID) and move all the topics from the broken board over to it.  Then delete the original (broken) board.  You can give it the same Board Name, but the ID has to be unique.

The temp medium board I created after the error it has the name [ mediumtwo ]

the Medium board has the name [ Medium ]
It does start with a capital letter.
I have one other board with a capital letter the Haiku board and it is working.

It is not a conflict between the temp board causing the issue. Nevertheless, if I can not find a solution moving all the topics over to a new board might be what I have to do. Will be a chore tho with over 800 topics.

About a week ago my server had some serious issues and the server techs had to repair it ( they never told me exactly what happened). In the process my forum topics were all lost. I did a backup from a program on my server not the yabb backup.
Basically, I backed up the entire forum to a previous date. This might be where something blew on there and it took me this long to see it.

ok if you can login from ftp and go into .../community/2.3.1/cgi-bin/yabb2/Boards/
and download forum.master

in there look for

Code
Select All
@categoryorder = qw(... poetry ...

then look for

$cat{'poetry'} = qq~Medium

$board{'Medium'} = qq~Medium Poetry||1~;

then look for .../community/2.3.1/cgi-bin/yabb2/Boards/Medium.txt

as this may be corrupted $board{'Medium'} = qq~Medium Poetry||1~;
and may be like $board{'medium'} = qq~Medium Poetry||1~;
or $board{'iwuhajhkaj'} = qq~Medium Poetry||1~;
or something to that effect

if it dont look like whats in the code box then this mite be the prob and prob hapend as in your quote

and if you are move the post over to a new board it mite be best if you put your forum into Maintenance Mode
as this might cause more probes if you dont

hope this helps out  Undecided
