Re: Problem with Email and Some Admin
I am pretty sure there is a code fix for this, but I am having a hard time locating it.

As I recall, it involves some *nix specific resource checking.

I'll keep looking.
Cool

Edited:

This will likely fix your no access to Advanced settings.  The 502 error is likely caused by the virtualization layer, and is probably NOT descriptive of the real problem.

Most settings and the Email settings are in ./Variables/Settings.pl

But this will not cure your problem.

Yes sir, you were definitely right about that.  I found the settings yesterday and cured my SMTP problem.  HTTP error still persists.  Just thought it was worth a try since SMTP was my root concern and other problem came to light when I tried to go into the admin screen that controlled those settings.  I just wanted to try.

Thanks again for taking the time to help!

Thanks JonB!  I am on it.  If you run into anything for the virtualization stuff, please let me know.

Re: Problem with Email and Some Admin
JonB,

Removing the block of code suggested in the other thread made no difference.  I'm still getting the same error.

502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.

There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server.

SteveinTN:

Is the only problem with the Advanced Settings Page?  Does everything else in YaBB work correctly (as far as you know)?

It's my opinion only that the likely culprit is some misbehaving code.  In that prior thread, my servers work, his didn't -- go figure.  Perl is not making progress on Windows, unlike PHP. I recently found a critical Perl mod; Win32:Cheesyaemon (Win32 services) has not been updated for ActiveStates Perl 5.10. Its beyond me to grok the problem and recompile. This means the Webmin port doesn't work any longer.  Undecided

We have our own Perl/Windows monster, which I am about to address.

Good Luck

Thanks.

Re: Problem with Email and Some Admin
JonB,

The only time "I" see the 502 error is when I try to go to Admin -> Advanced Settings.  Some users are saying that they are seeing it when they send a PM.  The PM goes through, but the error is a nag.

Thanks for taking the time... I appreciate it.  I'll keep looking.

Re: Problem with Email and Some Admin
Are you running FastCGI?

This first part is related to the PM problem primarily.

I think it might be a good idea to see if the PM users that experience the problem have something in common, perhaps the browser they use or OS.  Are they getting the exact same error? And lastly, for now, do we know how the virtualization is done?

You might want to check the NTFS permissions on that one file. If a permission is set manually within a folder, it overrides inheritance.  Since its a virtual server, I'll point out that 'move' perserves file properties and ownership, while 'copy' amends them to the current user.

As a note only: Perl is known to have timing issues on fast processors under Windows. (that may or may not be an issue). Rats - Sadly, I can't find my notes on this.

Re: Problem with Email and Some Admin
I'm glad I'm not alone in this issue.
I'm experiencing the same problems (502) as the OP when accessing the Advanced Settings from the Admin Center.
I noticed another problem is when guest click on the members list link at the bottom the forum throws them a 403 Error page.  The members list is accessible for registered users but non-users get 403.

You can view it for yourself here http://www.acewar.com/forums

My forum runs in IIS in Windows Server 2008 using the latest version of ActivePerl.

OK I 'm looking at the link JonB mentioned and will see if their solution fixes my solution for Yabb 2.5

Re: Problem with Email and Some Admin
Edit Settings.pl in your yabb2/Variables folder, correct email address and format for SMTP (if that is the format).
403 Error is "Forbidden", meaning Permission denied.  On a Unix Server this is usually caused by CHMODs or Server Security.  Your on WinIIS correct ?
Also noticed your missing at least 2 graphics files for your AE Template (rndcorner.png & rndcorner2.png)

Yes I am using IIS 7.
I recopied all the files from the yabbfiles over from the zip.  to recover the rndcorner.png and rndcorner2.png.

Although I don't know what change in appearance is the forum suppose to show with those two files being added back.

I still get that 403 from accessing the members link at the bottom when not logged in as a guest.

What do you have set for:
"MemberList
Select the Member Groups allowed to view the Member List?"
In Admin Center - Forum Settings - Members tab.

I see with this forum you created a public_html folder .. which is not needed nor required.
With IIs you might not have the correct permissions for these folders  (Check with your Host).  Why are you redirecting from http://www.acewar.com/forums to
http://acewar.com/public_html/yabb2/YaBB.pl
