Content Encoding Error
Full error says :
==============

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

    *  Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.
============

Off to download another forum to see if I repeat this error with another one.  Sad

Ok I have tried out a few of the other boards, which seem to be ok, other than I don't think they are as good as YABB.

I really would like to get Yabb running, if only I could figure out how to get around the error. Any help out there, I'm sure I can't be the only person to have encountered this error.

Its Yabb 2.4 btw

According to web searches, Are you using Firefox browser ?  Seems they are having this problem, trying clearing your cache, then attempt same url again or simply use IE.
   I am using FF 3.6.3 and don't have this problem with any of the installs I have done.

I think the Captain is on the right track, I got this error several times in the past when I had a Firefox restart.  I haven't had the error in some time, whihc I attribute to updating Firefox.

Good Luck

I just tried it with ie and got the normal 'cannot display page. I think this is something to do with the compression ?? that Yabb uses.

Surely the solution cannot be to force everyone who uses Firefox to use another browser?

I downloaded an old version (2.2) which runs ok - sort off but I cannot change profile as it errors with something like cannot open avatar folder $faces?? settings must be changed. Not really a lot of help as I have no way of knowing where the settings are. Again the setup said all was well with that.

I'm confused, (or just an idiot) not sure which.

Also please note that my perl does NOT have compress BZIP2 . Setup said that it didn't matter. I did download it and put it in my perl\lib and ran makefile.pl, but have no idea how I'm suppose to install from there as the instructions just say 'go in the folder and type make' ??  How the heck I do that I have no idea, but thats a problem for the CPAN ppl, not here.

This surely must be something I am doing, or not doing .... many many many people must be running these without problems.

Also and BTW - I have ticked the notification box to get notifications(this forum) but I don't get them. Maybe my email is wrong.

was this an upgrade?

There is a setting to enable compression in ./Variables/Settings.pl

$gzcomp = 0;                                      # GZip compression: 0 = No Compression, 1 = External gzip, 2 = Zlib::Compress

check that setting... its for browser compression

Good Luck

We don't force ANYONE to use a certain browser, YaBB is tested will the top 5 and are compatible with all.   FireFox admitted "they" had a problem and did a fix to their browser to cure that error.

  Did you enable Email notifications within "your" profile on this forum ?

Captain John:
It was you that advised using IE. Perhaps my use of the word 'force' was a little strong.

Nope: Never even gave that a thought. I assumed that if I marked the forum I would get them. I have now changed my profile

I'll check this when I get a chance.

I have just checked the settings in that file, as you advised.

The setting was $gzcomp = 2;
I changed it to $gzcomp = 0; as you recommended and low and behold running yabb.pl loaded up the forum seemingly ok. Thank you Smiley
