Install Failure

My site was running fine yesterday and was very pleased in the way it operated.

About 20:00 last night logins became intermittent, often coming up with a connection failure.

I then realised that I had failed to removed the Setup.pl file and figured that maybe the site had been hacked, I know I was probably being stupid, but I never claimed to be clever at this  Cheesy

Anyway, I had backed up at lunchtime after a clean install, so figured no probs, I'll start a totally clean install, then restore the files....wrong Cry

Every time I now try to run the following: -

http://www.domain.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb2/Setup.pl google then reports that the link is broken, I have checked all of the CHMOD settinsg and they are fine and have even download and recopied new files, yet still get the same problem.

I contacted webfusion and they say they are not sure what the problem is and whether it is me or them, can anyone advise.

Webfusion claim they are not experiencing any problems, but can't rule out that they don't have a problem, could it be that they are having a problem on their pearl side?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm lost on this part:

Hmmm - the server pings, OK - but I am just getting a blank page, not an error.

Did you do the transfer in ASCII mode?

you might test perl execution with a quick 'hello.pl' and place it in the yabb2 folder

Code
Select All
#!/usr/bin/perl
print "Hello, world!\n";

Good Luck

What I meant was that after I set the forum up, and everything was as I wanted it, I then did a backup of the site from the admin panel.

About the 500 ISE error:

Take a look at this Codex Section:

http://codex.yabbforum.com/YaBB.pl?num=1190688617

-----------------------------------------------------

What was happening with those login failures?  I'm thinking about the fact you added a hosting package? Was that mixed up in the domain in question?  If you changed DNS settings, DNS propogation could be an issue.

Good Luck

Cheers Jon,

Isn't it marvellous, after yet another call to Webfusion, tried it again and bingo, I can now run the installation, in fact have and restored the files and it all seems to work fine...so far Wink and I haven't changed a thing.

I've restored my files by just overwriting the new ones and it seems to have brought everything back fine, using cuteftp maintained the CHMOD settings so all I had to do was change to ASCII mode and it looks OK.

Have I restored in the right manner and is there anything to be wary of?

Thanks for all your help, I have to admit that I'm really pleased that I chose YaBB for the forums, still have one more to set up. Shocked Grin

Great ... over-writing is the correct thing to do for Admin, Languages, Help, Sources and the Menu*.def files in the yabb2/Variables folder.  Do not forget to upload ANY new files (such as files in yabbfiles/Templates\default).
