Categories Not Collapsing/Expanding
Hi,

My brother-in-law has a Yabb 2.4 forum where his categories do not collapse or expand. In Firefox 3.6, clicking the minus sign above a category does absolutely nothing; in IE8 he gets an "Error on page" error but nothing more. I am assuming this is some sort of Java problem, but where should I start looking (seeing as I seem to have been lumbered with fixing it for him!)?

Aha. I've just noticed that it's a bit more complicated. Clicking the minus (or plus) sign does actually collapse/expand the category, but the page does not refresh so you can see it. When you refresh the page manually, you can see that the category has collapsed or expanded. In other words, the error seems to be occurring after the collapse/expand operation, but before the page has refreshed. If that makes sense.

I've tried this on two different machines with exactly the same result, using the same versions of FF and IE8.

Any help would be much appreciated so that I can fix my brother-in-law's problem and he can buy me loads of cold beers to say thank you. As it's currently 36 degrees C (97 F) here in Spain, those beers would be most welcome, so your early attention to this would be gratefully received.  Cheesy

Thanks all!

Andy.

Andy ... would be very difficult to troubleshoot, since never had a user having such a problem, nor any of our test forums, nor this site (when it was using Y2.4).
 Not sure I could point you in the right direction.  A WAG wold be to replace Subs.pl to start, possibly corrupt.

Re: Categories Not Collapsing/Expanding
its probably a cache or Java problem. (my WAG of the day)

What's the setting for Browser Cache Behavior in Advanced > Advanced?

in the interim:

Check Java versions

logout to kill Yabb cookie, then clear the cache -- then test again.

Good Luck

Sorry no more thumbs up smiley  Cry

Re: Categories Not Collapsing/Expanding
Thanks for your replies, both. Much appreciated, as always. The problem so far is occurring on three different machines with different browsers, so I have a feeling it's not browser-related. Java is up-to-date. I will replace Subs.pl and see what happens.

Kind regards to you both

Andy.

Replacing Subs.pl didn't make any difference..... Cry

I have an idea...as all I need to do is to force a page reload after the expand/collapse operation (see above), is there some way of doing this, or is the error (whatever it is) sufficiently fatal to prevent a forced page reload?

 Any chance he did not install (all)(or upgrade) the *.js files in yabbfiles ?

Re: Categories Not Collapsing/Expanding
Hello,

I'm having the same problem.  When I click the collapse button nothing seems to happen.   I had to upgrade my server because the previous PC died.  So my new PC is a windows 7 with apache 2.4.  Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: Categories Not Collapsing/Expanding
Forgot to add some basic info.  I was on Yabb 2.4, and upgraded to Yabb 2.5 AE on the new PC.

Re: Categories Not Collapsing/Expanding
I found something which affects the collapse feature.  It seems if I switch the template back to the default template the collapse category feature works.  If I use the old Yabb 2.1 style it does not work.

I used the older style because the blinking button icon background doesn't match the surrouding gray color and it looks bad.  I couldn't figure out how to make default look good with the blinking light/new message feature.

Anyhow is there any way to make the default background match the blinking light bitmap background?

Yep, you're right. I haven't noticed that before, but it looks like the relevant tag has been left out of the 2.1 template.

If you want to fix it, find this bit of code in the yabb21/BoardIndex.template:

Code (HTML)Select All
<yabb newmsg start><yabb newmsg icon><yabb newmsg><yabb newmsg end>
</table>
<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%">

And add the highlighted:

Code (HTML)Select All
<yabb newmsg start><yabb newmsg icon><yabb newmsg><yabb newmsg end>
</table>
<table <yabb boardtable> cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%">

Re: Categories Not Collapsing/Expanding
Thanks. Adding <yabb boardtable> fixed my issue.  Smiley
