Thank you. That doesn't look too bad. I may be back with questions in a week or so when i actually attempt this.

Its actually not terribly difficult -

Read this, then ask questions

Because the version is quite old, there will be a data conversion process - and there will be some new options that have to be configured in the Admin Center.  The data conversion is an automated one.

Its impossible to say 'how long" things may take, but my realistic effort estimate would be a one Saturday afternoon, provided you are familiar with CPanel or FTP and the matter of CHMOD.

If you are not familiar with YaBB, I'd suggest (if practicable) toying with the Cpanel install a bit and getting it working, THEN saving a few needed bits for reference, and THEN uploading your data that will need conversion.  That way you have a working forum as a baseline reference.

You might want to download the 2.3.1 code package and look at the Quick Guide that is bundled with it.

Good luck and have fun

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Upgrade and port to new server

I'm taking over management of a non profit site that has been running for years on a server in a basement. The bulletin board files are about 80 MB total, and it's running YABB 1 Gold - SP1 on Linux. I'm moving the site to a commercial host that provides a CPanel install of YABB. The version there is 2.3.1.

Can I (relatively) easily port the forum over to the new site? This is volunteer work. If it's going to to be 8+ hours of work, I'm just going to tell them it can't be done and we'll start fresh. If I can make it work in an evening I'll give it a shot.

Thanks.
