mmmmm the Dev's combined some settings into Settings.pl, I believe advsettings.txt was one of them .. (Note: that setup I had you download was a Y2.3 version) but I knew the conversion for older versions of YaBB worked then.
 So I tried replacing the newer one with it, but it seems to be calling the old files, not Settings.pl.
 So ........ that won't work....... back to the drawing board

Edited:
Okay ... Now this will take more work ... Install Y2.3.1, then convert your 1.4 forum to Y2.3.1, then "upgrade" to Y2.5 (follow Quick-Guide instructions)

Did you remove Setup.lock or Convert.lock from the ./Variables folder ?  Setup.lock should be there in order to run the Convert only, you don't want to run Setup again.

Well I guess I couldn't sleep LOL
So I looked over the internet and stared reading
how Perl scrips work.

This was at the top of my Setup.pl that was returning
errors.

#!/usr/local/bin/perl --

###############################################################################
# Setup.pl                                                                    #

# Open-Source Community Software for Webmasters                               #
# Version:        YaBB 2.3.1                                                  #
# Packaged:       January 04, 2009                                            #

$setupplver = 'YaBB 2.3.1 $Revision: 1.34.2.17.2.33 $';

# use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser); # used only for tests

So I was reading that I could (Uncomment ? )
use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser);

And (I think ) force the browser to print by.
print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";

So I changed the Setup.pl to read.

#! /usr/local/bin/perl
use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser);
print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";

And the browser returned the error.

Status: 500 Content-type: text/html
Software error:

Can't locate ./Variables/advsettings.txt in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.9/BSDPAN /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/mach /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9 /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.9/mach /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.9 . ./Modules ./Modules) at /home/public/cgi-bin/yabb2/Setup.pl line 4280.
For help, please send mail to the webmaster (nobody), giving this error message and the time and date of the error.

So I looked in ./Variables/advsettings.txt and there is
no file by this name.

But I am a little closer.
And it almost midnight LOL.
My how $Time="flys"  Smiley

I always have a hard time getting pl scripts to run on
the server. Sometimes they wont work when I first try them
and then hours later they will work.

The server is free BSD and the shebang is
#!/usr/local/bin/perl --
not the general
#!/usr/bin/perl --

I know this because I have 2 working yabb boards
in the same cgi bin.

I used.

Edit - Select ALL - Copy functions of your browser, then Edit Paste in Note Pad

Although I didn't do that the first time.

I also called the file Setup.pl
and deleted the existing Setup file.

File was uploaded in ascii.
and chmod 777

Ill have to work on this next weekend so ill
keep trying.

Many thanks for your help and patience.

You certainly didn't need the _003 in the file name.

Did you use the Edit - Select ALL - Copy functions of your browser, then Edit Paste in Note Pad ?

Check your editing of the shebang (your not on a linux/Unix server ?)

Copied file.
Pasted to note pad.
Changed path to perl.
Uploaded to server in ascii.
Changed name to Setup_003.pl
Changed permissions to 755.
Hit it with Browser.

Error 500 Internal Server Error (Premature end of script headers: Setup_003.pl)

Sorry to bother you Captain John.

After I add the file.
Am I supposed to run setup again?
Or just change the file?

Thanks.

Hi Captain John Thanks.

One little tid bit I just stumbled on.

I opened my admin.var file and I noticed that after
the username password and most of the files there was
a extra symbol it wont show on this board if I copy and
paste it. Its like a squar zero.

After I removed all of them I can now log in.
Problem is I have 1,800 members so I would rather
not do this by hand.

Now I guess the next question would be did I use ascii
or binary mode on the file transfer.

I don't know on the old board?
Its like 9 years old.
It is on line WORKING.
I did the conversion on line and in my root directory.
I did NOT transfer files to do the conversion.

Sheee wiz....

I deleted the new board.
Installed a new 2.5 board.
Ran the converter again.

Exactly the same result!

I have now deleted the maintenance lock file.
So my board is open. (Not in maintenance mode)

Nobody can long in.
No members.
and the other administrator can not log in.
Everybody gets the same message.

Username / Password mismatch. The Username you specified does not exist or you entered a wrong password.

The same usernames and passwords work on the old board.

Any Ideas?

Thanks!
