Re: Converted from SP 1.4! to 2.5
So lets say I got desperate.
What if I installed XXAMP on my puter.
Set every thing up and did the converson.
Would the board work once I loaded from
winxp xxamp back to Free BSD?

Also would the script care if I pinged it localhost
or would I need to set up dns?

Thanks

Re: Converted from SP 1.4! to 2.5
well see if they (your Host) are aware of any special considerations you need to allow for to upload ascii files to their server.  Mention you getting that character as end of line or carriage return after every line in text files.

Re: Converted from SP 1.4! to 2.5
The thing is a new board will work.
I have a 2.5 that has been running for months.
(Same host diffrent doman.

The old board I had saved on my hard drive
and I uploaded it and it works all passwords
and everything. The only time the board will
not work is after I do a converson.

Only after the online converson do I see the
extra symbols. And after I remove them it will
work.

Thanks.

Ill try and get some screen shots later..

Are you transferring, uploading your old files to the new forum for conversion or running from the old directories ?

Re: Converted from SP 1.4! to 2.5
I uploaded the old form first.
It has now been running for months.
every thing on it works.

Then I uploaded the new 2.5 and tested it
every thing worked including the admin password.

Then I did the converson.

After that the passwords would not work on the new form.

The same thing happened when I tried 2.3.1

every thing works on the old and new forms untill I convert.
Then the new form will not accept passwords.

Re: Converted from SP 1.4! to 2.5
Hi Captain John.

I am considering creating a server environment in a virtual machine (VMware) to do the conversion in.

Questions.

1. What platform would I have the best chance of success.

(Remember my old yaBB 1.4 was configured in a free BSD
server.) Now I don't have the technical skills to duplicate
my FreeBSD hosts server. But I could easy use any Linux distro (Red hat, Ubuntu, Suse) and any bundled server distrow like XXAMP. I Also have copies of all windows versons.

Considering the number of hours that doing this would take.
I would like to get your opinion before I tried.

Thanks.

Re: Converted from SP 1.4! to 2.5
I put this in the same thread because it may be related
to the previous problem.

I set up XAMPP on my local host XP SP3
The I set up a 2.5 board. Every thing worked.

I didn't try to get my 1.4 to work
(Maybe thats the problem)

During the conversion I get.
