Has YaBB3 development stalled?
I see the SVN hasn't had any major update for over 2 months beyond copyright notices etc.

Has a decision been made regarding the architecture issues that beta testing showed up?

It all seems to have gone very quiet  Cry

No decision was made.  At this point, if the team says they can and will finish it if we abandon the current data structure and go All SQL, then I'm for it.  But we'll see who is still around.

Re: Has YaBB3 development stalled?
Wouldn't that mean there is no other reliable, heavy featured bulletin board without the need of a database around any more?

Don't get me wrong: I think databases are great, but I think the special thing about YaBB was always that it doesn't require a database.

There are plenty of good free boards with a database in the background out there. In fact I don't get why there are people who would prefer any other board over phpBB?

The only reasons I can imagine is that they can't provide a database or that they are using a differend system with a built in board already...

Or am I just too uninformed? Huh

I have a big Forum that is now reaching crisis point and server loads are a real worry.  I had been hoping for 3 to come out and save the day.... as pressure is now on to look at other boards and I just don't want to do that... I like YaBb and have been running it for years.   Smiley

Re: Has YaBB3 development stalled?
I was in the same situation with my 1.1m post www.omegaowners.com site, desperately hanging on for a usable Y3.

I realised 3 or 4 months ago that it was never going to happen, so last weekend, we upgraded to SMF2.

its so sad to see YaBB be forced to die in the way it has in the last 15 months....

Wasn't too bad, though I had thoroughly investigated it, and tested the import about a dozen times.  All posts made it over. All normal PMs made it over, all members made it over.

PMs in 'Storage' area were lost. The Boards and permissions all had to be rebuilt, as did the member counts.

Feel free to see how it runs now - www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php

Re: Has YaBB3 development stalled?
It is sad to hear that Yabb development is stopping.
I have been looking forward to a version with sql database support, as our forum has been stalling frequently due to large message voume.
We have to delete old threads every few months, to keep the thread number below 40'000 where the performance problems begin.

We would regret to have to migrate to a  forum which is not perl based, as we have made extensive additions to our version of Yabb to integrate it with our website which is also based on perl cgi.

What can be done to overcome the crisis in yabb 3 development?

I guess good Perlers need to volunteer to help out Wink

Too late for me now, I've migrated away from YaBB  Cry
