I've been popping in here every now and then for a few months now hoping to see signs of new life developing here. I currently design skins for vBulletin V 3 & 4, phpBB2 & phpBB3 and now XenForo. I was hoping to try my hand at designing skins for YABB but if this system is going to go with the dinosaurs I guess there's not much point in my waiting. It would be a horrible shame to see this forum system die off though, it's much more fun using this software than many others, but that's just little ol'me speaking.

I hope YABB doesn't end up dying off. Smiley

As long as there is Perl for Unix, Linux and Windows servers, there will always be YaBB.

Making skins for YaBB is not that hard. Just like any other BBS, you just need a lot of graphics and where they go. The templates can also be modded but you need to know a bit of Perl to do that. Check out the skins on the Mod Board, and see how they did it!

I wanted to publicly express my thanks to JonB in particular for keeping everything together during the rough patches of YaBB's most recent growth spurt. I can only imagine that it must have been a very tough job, particularly when those of us who love YaBB felt inclined to fight with criticism to keep YaBB alive, and well. You ultimately stuck it out with us, and my own faith in you has been vindicated quite wonderfully.

My hat is off to Corey as well, because like any great project leader, he made the excellent choice to delegate to others, and to step back to allow things to shake out for the better despite how painful it was at times.

Obviously there are others who deserve to be praised, particularly those of you behind the scenes who added your valuable 2 cents to support YaBB's endeavors, and by extension to some degree, its critics.

I'm very thrilled with YaBB's most recent collaboration, and I'm impressed with the way that YaBB's leadership managed to keep everything intact despite how tough the last couple of years have been.

Smiley Long live YaBB! Smiley

Morning, noon, or night, have a great one!

What a difference a year makes.

There now appears to be some real progress - 2.5.2 released today, and roadmaps beyond that. More importantly, there is a feeling that things are really moving around here again.

I was highly critical of YaBB's running and progress in the bulk of this thread from March 2011 to Sep 2011. I honestly thought Y2.5AE was going to be the last ever version.  I am delighted to be proven wrong.

Well done to all concerned.

NYLXS (one of NYC's biggest Linux User Group) will be using YaBB; first on a personal forum by the NYLSX chairman, and hopefully for NYLXS itself.

He wanted "A forum that runs on Perl and I can hack to make changes as I need them!" YaBB won out over e-Blab.

Q: Other than YaBB and e-Blab, how many other perl based forums are there?

That is great news. Good luck to NYLXS!
