I have been here, or was here back in the mid to late 2000's ...

You must have been one of the first group of people who joined this forum back in 2000 since, evidently, the forum began its operations on June 1, 2000. I learned about YaBB sometime in 2002 when I first joined this forum on June 2nd of that year, although I didn't actually participate online until quite a bit later.

Coincidentally, both Dandello and Jon appear to have become members back in 2008.

Simply for the record ...

Unfortunately for some reason, given that YaBB is supposed to be an open source project despite the fact that it's always operated as a private entity, posts were routinely deleted rather than archived, so an accurate full history of this support forum's activities have been lost forever.

I don't know if posts continue to be deleted as a matter of policy, but I do know that deletions were being made as late as 2013. For a short period of time, a big part of this forum was actually privatized for some reason, although that bad action was subsequently reversed to make those privatized posts public again.

Again, given that YaBB is supposed to be operated as an open source project, I think that the deletion of posts should be a thing of the past, and that older posts should be archived instead of deleted. Had that been YaBB's policy all along, we wouldn't have lost a lot of pearls of wisdom, which in turn would have served YaBB's community at large much better.

Think of a YaBB archive as a codex of sorts, in which case archived posts could still be accessed in much the same way that the YaBB Codex can be accessed.

Morning, noon, or night, have a great one!

@ Red and RonS

I am going to address the 'legality/ethics' issue directly with the owner of the domain. At the moment, I have been entrusted by the previous host (Loony Pandora) of both systems with the 'guardianship' of the files/backups. BoardMod is definitely on the 'to-do' list. The reality is, it will probably need repairs, even if we can get a database to work. BoardMod hadn't really been revised/updated/reorganized in many years.

Thanks for your support and generous offer. LOL, we will be passing the hat soon for some things we need.  I want to get YaBB 2.6 out, and it is all that Dandello and I can do to move that forward right now.  Once it is out, I will feel we (the YaBB Team) have met a milestone we were obliged to fulfill.  Then I can put our mutual hands out and ask our supporters for some tokens of love and appreciation.  Wink  I never went to ask my mom for things/liberties if my chores were not done.

Thanks again

I cant code, but I do have a server if you need someplace to host the files, even if temporarily. FTP server as well.

I left off at 2.4, had 3 forums running on my server at the same time. Good old days. Good to see some of the familiar names around still.

Would it be considered unethical if the mods resided here?

At least until Boardmod.org is back up?

OK, thanks for that clarification Dandello

As soon as we get 2.6 out, I will switch mode to see what can be done about BoardMod. I don't have access to their Domain/DNS either, BTW.

thanks

There were 2.5 mods in there - I know, Derek Barnstorm wrote a LOT of them.

To Explain a bit on BoardMod.com

BaordMod used a completely different code base that included MySQL calls to a database we don't have a backup of. I was not an administrator in htat domain.  We are going to see if we can 'kludge-fit' the messages/topics/memebers etc. We DO have all the mods, we don't have a way to instantly bring it back to life.  I 'believe' that the mods on BoardMod only go up to YaBB 2.4.

In the interim, you should proabably check out Carsten Dalgaard's YaBB Mod Forum.  Many of the current mod writers are working over there.

http://www.carsten-dalgaard.dk/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl

Good Luck & thanks for your interest.

What happened to Boardmod.org?  I was looking forward to making some mods to help personalize the forum.

Dead post, almost 2 years since last activity, and YABB is still here!  Its nice to be back after a 4 year absence and find YABB still around. I've got 2.6.0 up on my Win 2008 server with only a few problems with Perl and permissions. YABB installed flawlessly. I see some of the MOD writers have left, and I too am sad to see them go. I really enjoyed the options and variety they provided to YABB. Now, lets see what the future has to bring to YABB!

That is great news. Good luck to NYLXS!
