Error when attaching a picture to message

Post Tools
Members are unable to attach a picture to their message on my forum. It worked fine before, and I didn't change any settings. Can you please tell me what's causing the problem?

There's an error message similar to below:

An Error Has Occurred!
50 kilobytes and cannot be uploaded.

Thank you.

Hi,

It sounds like either they are exceeding the file size limit or the attachment directory is full.

You can increase them in Admin Center => Advanced Settings => File Attachments:

File Size Limit for each Attachment:

Attachment Directory Size Limit:

Thank you for your help Derek. The attachment directory was full which caused the problem, but now resolved.

Is there a setting to enable members to attach more than one picture to their message?

It depends which version you are running, but from YaBB 2.3 up, yes.

Admin Center => Advanced Settings => File Attachments:

Number of file attachments allowed in Posts:

I'm still using YaBB 2.2.2. I haven't kept up to date with newer versions.

Where can I see a screen shot of YaBB 2.3, and is it possible to upgrade with everything still intact, such as old settings, member records and messages?

I saw YaBB 2.5, but I don't like format of the avatar details on top of the message.

The 2.3 template is the same as the version that you are running, and yep, it is possible to keep all your settings.

You really should upgrade to YaBB 2.5 though. Just download 2.5 and follow the Quick-Guide included in the package to run you through it.

It is possible to keep the template you are using now, but if I was you I would use the template from the 2.4 download - this is also the same as the version you are running.

You will need to make a couple of edits to the template to make it fully working with 2.5, but it won't be noticeable unless you know what you are looking for, so I'll tell you what edits to make once you have upgraded.

So there's no need to backup anything before upgrading?

Which of the following do I download to upgrade?
YaBB_2.5_AE.zip
YaBB_2.5_AE-upgrade.zip

For your version you'll need the full package: YaBB_2.5_AE.zip

Open Quick-Guide.html in your browser and see Upgrading YaBB 2.

Because you'll have to make a fresh install, you won't have to make any changes to your old forum, so backing up isn't necessary but is always a good idea.

Really, you should always back up before attempting anything technical with your forum.

Err, works fine for me. After you click on the download link, you'll be directed to a page on SourceForge, and it should say this at the top:

Your Yet another Bulletin Board download will start in 5 seconds…

It should then download.

Okay I managed to download it with some help.

I'm not sure whether to upgrade because I may not know what I'm doing and the settings and messages can be all wiped out.

I noticed the scripts in the new version are in ".pl". I'm using ".cgi" with my current version.

Your messages won't be wiped out because you'll move them to your new forum. Just make a back-up and follow the Quick-Guide exactly and you should be alright.

That's nothing to worry about. If you can't run .pl files on your server then just rename YaBB.pl, AdminIndex.pl and Setup.pl to the .cgi extension before installing.

What about all the .pl files in the sources and admin directory, and maybe others I haven't looked at. Do these also need to be renamed to .cgi?

How do I install it? Do I need to upload anything first?

Thank you.

Nope. Leave those as they are - just change the ones I told you to above.

You need to make a totally fresh install of the forum, so yeah, you obviously have to upload it. Follow the Quick-Guide included in the package - all the instructions are in there. And depending what server you are on, there's also plenty of info in the YaBB Codex:

For Linux see:

http://www.yabbforum.com/codex/YaBB.pl?board=linux

And Windows see:

http://www.yabbforum.com/codex/YaBB.pl?board=windows

I only changed the ones you told me.

Now, I'm getting the following error message when I try to run Setup.cgi

An Error Has Occurred!

Unable to open //.html: No such file or directory

Can you please tell me what the problem is?
