I see. The Setup file does not work for me and I'm pulling my hair out. And none of you "tech" guys have answered, and maybe don't know why the error message appears.

The Setup file from the YaBB 2.2.2 version still works fine, when I upload to test it out of curiosity. Oh well, I look forward to new releases in the future and will try again. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Is it possible for me to manually add the "Caps Lock detection" and "enable multiple uploads" codes to the script of YaBB 2.2.2?

 Simply .... No

When I look into the "Paths.pl" file in the YaBB 2.5 AE version, it only has the following information:

# Blank Paths.pl file

Then Setup.pl has NOT been run, since running Setup fills in this file with the Urls & Dirs for the forum.

Not working, very frustrating. I have no option but to stick with the old version, which is a pity because the latest version have some nice features.

Is it possible for me to manually add the "Caps Lock detection" and "enable multiple uploads" codes to the script of YaBB 2.2.2?

It would be nice if this can be achieved.

According to the error message, it is trying to open some sort of .html file.

Maybe this might be the problem. In the old version of my "Paths.cgi" file, I noticed it has a list of paths to directories and files.

When I look into the "Paths.pl" file in the YaBB 2.5 AE version, it only has the following information:

# Blank Paths.pl file

Yes, I've tried everything, including running Setup and all files as .pl, and I'm still getting those error messages as mentioned in reply #16.

Why isn't it the issue? In my old version, I noticed that ALL files are .cgi format.

I said that you shouldn't rename all the other files - that's not the issue.

Before I look into it further, have you tried to run it as a .pl file? You might not have to run it as a CGI, so try the default install of .pl first - see if it works...

Support seems a bit slow, so I tried it anyway. It gives me an internal server error when I rename all scripts to cgi, so maybe problem is coming from the scripts.

I will go back to the old version if I can't get this forum to work within 12 hours. Any help would really be appreciated, thank you.

I am not very technical so I don't know much about web server and perl versions, but the bottom line is that I've always run YaBB as a CGI and it has worked fine prior to the upgrade.

What is causing the problem, do you think I need to rename all files with the pl file extensionss to cgi, rather than just a few?

This is giving me a headache, I need luck now.

I think the first question that needs to be answered is:

"Why are we running YaBB as a CGI?" -

This could be the turning point of the issue.

What is the server OS, and what web server and Perl versions are in use???

thanks & good luck

The top header says:

Status: 200 OK
Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate
Pragma: no-cache
Content-Type: text/html

And at the bottom says:

An Error Has Occurred!
Unable to open //.html: No such file or directory

I only changed the ones you told me.

Now, I'm getting the following error message when I try to run Setup.cgi

An Error Has Occurred!

Unable to open //.html: No such file or directory

Can you please tell me what the problem is?

What about all the .pl files in the sources and admin directory, and maybe others I haven't looked at. Do these also need to be renamed to .cgi?

Nope. Leave those as they are - just change the ones I told you to above.

How do I install it? Do I need to upload anything first?

You need to make a totally fresh install of the forum, so yeah, you obviously have to upload it. Follow the Quick-Guide included in the package - all the instructions are in there. And depending what server you are on, there's also plenty of info in the YaBB Codex:

For Linux see:

http://www.yabbforum.com/codex/YaBB.pl?board=linux

And Windows see:

Your messages won't be wiped out because you'll move them to your new forum. Just make a back-up and follow the Quick-Guide exactly and you should be alright.

I noticed the scripts in the new version are in ".pl". I'm using ".cgi" with my current version.

That's nothing to worry about. If you can't run .pl files on your server then just rename YaBB.pl, AdminIndex.pl and Setup.pl to the .cgi extension before installing.
