If what you want to do is make your Vista machine into the machine that YaBB actually runs on (and the machine that others will connect to to use your YaBB forum), you will need at least two other pieces of software:

The Perl programming language

ActiveStates is pretty much the standard for Windows
http://www.activestate.com/activeperl

and a web server; such as Apache or Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Server).

IIS comes with Vista (you'll have to learn to set it up)
Apache
http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi

OR

You can install an Apache pre-bundled distribution like XAMPP that includes Apache, Perl, PHP and MySQL.  WAAAY EASIER

http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html

If none of this makes sense - you need to go back a step and learn about setting up your own webserver

Two sites about setting up your machine to be a webserver:
Mine: - smaller and to this exact point -
http://bravo.newnetenterprises.com/

Christopher Heng's - big and covers a lot of ground
http://www.thesitewizard.com/

IF what you want is to install on an existing webhosting service,

Then you need a host that offers Perl version 5.8+ as part of their package, and does not have limits on the number of files you can have in a folder.  -- AND -- of course the YaBB software to upload.

You can also find a lot of info about how to install YaBB in the YaBB Codex

http://www.yabbforum.com/codex/

Good Luck

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Its obvious you want your computer to be hacked and every script kiddie on the planet to access your credit card and banking account information from everytime you shopped online...

Now, to protect yourself, I abide by these rules.

-If I want to run a site (no matter how big or how small!), I never do it on my personal machine. Not even for family and friends use!

-I buy a cheap old computer system, or dumpster dive and get it for free, and use this second computer as the server for the site. Anything from a Pentium II on up will work, but to make it easy, use a PIII or better machine. You can use a mini-ATX PC or an old laptop if space is an issue.

-I put in the high end or Pro system on that machine.

-I follow the directions as what JonB says. There is a codex of instructions of how to install into a Windows system somewhere. Find it, read it. I know it exists, because I wrote it: http://www.yabbforum.com/codex/YaBB.pl?num=1226450192

And JonB wrote another: http://www.yabbforum.com/codex/YaBB.pl?num=1217630568

Good Luck!
