This is YaBB - which means Perl and flat-file. The problem is extracting the proper data from the various message files and converting it into a tab or CSV delimited file which can be opened by any spreadsheet program or imported by any database program.

This is something Perl can do handily - assuming there's consistent delimiters in the message files so the data can be found.

I havenít got what you really want to do with the data. Please make it clear and also provide information or link to your bulletin board so that I could get a clear idea about the problem. I think you want to convert the data in to excel format. For that I want to know the nature of your bulletin board and other details. There are many tools available that can be used to convert data in various formats such as .sql, into excel format and vice versa. Try any of those tools and I hope that may help you.

Without seeing your BB, it's hard to make suggestions beyond the normal PerlMonger ones - Create an HTML form that writes data into an Excel compatible database and/or emails the info to you so you can add it easily to your Excel spreadsheet.

In the meantime, it should be possible to write a Perlscript that opens the messages in the Message directory, reads them and extracts the info - assuming there's some sort of flag within the message file itself that will tell the script that it's one to process.

data extraction

I'm new at this but we run a Boston Terrier Rescue for Boston Terriers and use the BB to process applications.   The applications are a copy/paste from a form created in Front Page.    Is there anything available or any ideas on how to convert that data to something like in excel?
