Re: Still perplexed on "spamming" issues.
Yes, the same "spam-registration" in two of my Yabb-Systems. The "registration spam" start about 01. November 2011. Before there are only 5, sometimes up to 10 new registrations. Now every day about 30 and more new registrations. Nobody of the new members post something, only a registration.

I'm using yabb 2.5 and Captcha with a length of 9.

What happen?

Maybe this are interesting too:
My hoster change one day before to PHP 5.36 stable

Same here, started last week, never had this problem the past 4 years... Upper case, lower case, numbers, 8 digits, nothing seems to work...

Re: Still perplexed on "spamming" issues.
I now have nearly 70 waiting for approval. Yes, it's quite irritating to the admin who has to go in and approve registrations. You don't want to have to sift through a tone just to get to the legitimate ones.

Is there no help in sight for this problem? Surely there has to be a relatively easy way to take care of this.

HELP!!! ANYONE???

I bet if there was a random # of characters for captcha set between 2 numbers you decide on like between 4 and 9 and everytime someone goes to register it picks the random # that it would boggle their software to hell. if they are using some kind of program to beat the captcha thing.

Re: Still perplexed on "spamming" issues.
Most of the algorithms are character-recognition based, so I'm a bit unsure if varying the number of characters would be a deterrent or not.  I do know that increasing the number of characters will lsow down the 'bot-based' registrations.

Re: Still perplexed on "spamming" issues.
I'm up to over 90 waiting for approval now and the number grows by the day. I just leave them alone and let them expire but that still doesn't fix the underlying problem. It appears that this is really getting out of hand and something needs to be done about it. What, I don't know but obviously someone or something has figured out how to beat the YaBB system and drive board owners mad!

Is there anyone out there that works on YaBB boards for a fee? I need someone to do some work for me so if you're out there and willing to help please PM me.

thanks

Install either a combination of:

The StopForumSpam Mod and SpamFruits

Or:

The StopForumSpam Mod and Anti-Spam Question

That should solve most of your spam problems and not cost you a penny.

Re: Still perplexed on "spamming" issues.
Maybe, this can stop the "spam registrations".

The question is:
Why so many registrations can be made automatically.

If I have to install a second mod, for what I use the internal spam-protection of Yabb. This don't work alone??

Not really a good idea...

I guess that depends if you want to stop spam now or wait until when/if there's a change in the software.

If you want to stop spam now, then I'd say that it is a good idea.

Re: Still perplexed on "spamming" issues.
Ok. thank you.

This means too, the spam protection of Yabb can not really used for a secure spam-protection (at the monent) for the registration, because there must be a bug or something new clever software, that so many user can register by robots.

Re: Still perplexed on "spamming" issues.
Seems many use gmail.com In antispam settings you can add to Blocked Email Domains some of the e-mails used by spammers.
Add gmail.com at least for a while. You can make a note in the registration agreement at the top to use another e-mail.
gmail is one of the worst for not stopping spammers.

Re: Still perplexed on "spamming" issues.
Why is this under support in English? Shouldn't it be under
Programming and other Technical Help
So everyone will see it?

To mods, there is a post promoting another forum software. That seems odd to have posted for so long.
