I'm afraid not - there'd be no way of telling if it was spam or a legitimate user who had got it right.

It's now been over 12 hours and not a single spam registration! Hallelujah! Derek Barnstorm, will you pardon me for saying this, but, I think I love you. This is the greatest mod I've seen yet. I know that even in the minute chance they could guess the answer to the questions, I can always change them. Brilliant!

Can one tell which question was answered correctly if it happens?

A thousand thank yous and a ring of Martian fire flowers for writing it.

Kiss Kiss Kiss

That's good to know. I have still got to make a couple of changes at some point though, like making it case-insensitive and excepting multiple answers like '8' and 'eight'.

I've just installed the Anti-Spam Question mod, and while it shows up in my list of installed mods, trying to get the config page to show up only shows the admin "homepage." I'm running YaBB 2.3.1 on this board - any thoughts?

Why is this under support in English? Shouldn't it be under
Programming and other Technical Help
So everyone will see it?

To mods, there is a post promoting another forum software. That seems odd to have posted for so long.

Seems many use gmail.com In antispam settings you can add to Blocked Email Domains some of the e-mails used by spammers.
Add gmail.com at least for a while. You can make a note in the registration agreement at the top to use another e-mail.
gmail is one of the worst for not stopping spammers.

Ok. thank you.

This means too, the spam protection of Yabb can not really used for a secure spam-protection (at the monent) for the registration, because there must be a bug or something new clever software, that so many user can register by robots.

Not really a good idea...

I guess that depends if you want to stop spam now or wait until when/if there's a change in the software.

If you want to stop spam now, then I'd say that it is a good idea.

Maybe, this can stop the "spam registrations".

The question is:
Why so many registrations can be made automatically.

If I have to install a second mod, for what I use the internal spam-protection of Yabb. This don't work alone??

Not really a good idea...

I'm up to over 90 waiting for approval now and the number grows by the day. I just leave them alone and let them expire but that still doesn't fix the underlying problem. It appears that this is really getting out of hand and something needs to be done about it. What, I don't know but obviously someone or something has figured out how to beat the YaBB system and drive board owners mad!

Is there anyone out there that works on YaBB boards for a fee? I need someone to do some work for me so if you're out there and willing to help please PM me.

Install either a combination of:

The StopForumSpam Mod and SpamFruits

Or:

The StopForumSpam Mod and Anti-Spam Question

That should solve most of your spam problems and not cost you a penny.

Most of the algorithms are character-recognition based, so I'm a bit unsure if varying the number of characters would be a deterrent or not.  I do know that increasing the number of characters will lsow down the 'bot-based' registrations.

Good Luck

I bet if there was a random # of characters for captcha set between 2 numbers you decide on like between 4 and 9 and everytime someone goes to register it picks the random # that it would boggle their software to hell. if they are using some kind of program to beat the captcha thing.
