I think I do need to change host.  They unsuspended my site so that I could fix it but blocked my ip.

This is probably exactly what's going on. In short, you need to be with a better host. Luckily for you, it seems that you have a good option with WebMe's recommendation here. After all, as his signature states, "We offer YaBB compatible hosting. Ask for a free trial."

Also, I don't remember offhand if this community support forum of YaBB's is hosted by WebMe, but you can see how well it performs here, so you may want to give them a try.

One thing I can tell you from experience is that popular forums will get hit with spambots a lot. Our own forum is getting hit more and more. We were getting hit by spambots at a rate of about 500 every two hours, but that's recently doubled to about 500 each and every hour. This hasn't adversely affected our forum's performance at all, and the captcha changes we implemented keep the spammers from registering.

Edited:
Like BoardMod mentioned here, I think YaBB's own community support forum is now hosted by UK2 Hosting.

Yes, it probably is a spambot hit.
Will your host reactivate your account in order to allow you to try and resolve the issue?

I don't see anything in the log that should have tripped anything as an error (except maybe the suexec call)  aside from a lot of hits in a short time - which kinda looks like spammers.

Your tech host's support doesn't seem to be especially helpful. The large number of hits in such a short time may have triggered a CPU usage cut-off.

As for adding mods - check out http://www.boardmod.org/mods.php - There are instructions for adding mods. One that is essential is either SpamFruits or Anti-spam question (use custom questions though - bots know the usual questions). StopForumSpam is excellent as well and people are swearing by the Captcha hack at http://www.yabbforum.com/community/YaBB.pl?num=1324832594.

If you can get to your YaBB error log, that might tell you something as well. (Like the IP addresses of the perps so they can be banned through htaccess if necessary)

And there are lots of YaBB friendly hosts out there.

That doesn't tell us anything. Who was your hosting service? What were they offering in terms of bandwidth and other resources (If they told you it was 'unlimited' well, there ain't no such thing and you probably ran afoul of their 'unlimited resources until you need to use some' fine print.)

Which version of YaBB were you using? Were there any installation issues? Any evidence that your site was attacked by spammers using your resources (did you remember to add the recommended anti-spam mods that will (hopefully) be part of the next version?

I am using 2.5AE
Installed it a year ago.  Never had any issues until now.  Hosting is with TPP (former Planet Domain) I have used 40% of bandwidth so far, and I dont have any mods cause I don't know how to add them.
