If I remember correctly, I changed mine in the css file. I'm not around my computer to look up exactly what to look for but look for something labled news fader.

Hope this helps. If you don't get a response or find it I'll look it up in the morning.

In default.css find:

Code
Select All
#fscroller {
	line-height: 1.3;

And add after:

Code
Select All
font-size: 14px;

Hope this helps.

Hi,
How (or where) do I change the font size of the Forum News text?
Thanks,
Casey

Especially if you already edit your website by using HTML language, another option is to add your own news where YaBB's "Forum News" is placed, and make it look exactly as you want.

If you do this, I recommend the following (based on YaBB 2.4):

Go to Admin Center, then Forum Layout, and then Template.

Find:
Code
Select All
<td class="small" align="left" valign="top" height="60">{yabb news}</td>

Insert After:
Code
Select All
<!-- Insert here: Use the space below to include special messages. -->

<!-- Insert here: Use the space above to include special messages. -->

Regarding the text above, you can of course use whatever text you want that works best for you.

In any case, whenever you want nothing displayed, just leave the space in between the text markers blank.

Whenever you want news to be displayed, or whatever else, add your HTML language in between the text markers.

Example:
Code
Select All
<!-- Insert here: Use the space below to include special messages. -->

<center><p>
This is a test. <font size="+3">Bigger text</font>. <font color="red">Text in Red</font>.
</p></center>

<!-- Insert here: Use the space above to include special messages. -->

The result would be as follows:

This is a test. Bigger text. Text in Red.

The reason I choose to do this versus using YaBB's "Forum News" is because it's a very flexible way to add news or special announcements to our forum.

I choose to use the placement tags of <!-- and --> with the word "Insert" because I can very quickly find that unique word for editing when I access our forum's template.

I might add that this is yet another reason YaBB is a better than other forum software; the flexibility it allows.  Smiley

Good luck, and have fun with your forum!  Cool

Thanks westwegoman and Bill,

I took Bill's advice and it works lickity split.  I like that I can manipulate color and text sizes within the message.  For example, I can put an orange/black Halloween message or a red/green Christmas message when the time comes (can't hardly wait)

Casey, thanks for letting us know that this worked for you. I'm thrilled!  Smiley

Ironically, the only reason I ever did it this way is because I'm an idiot when it comes to perl. I'm still in the dark ages when it comes to that stuff.

Fortunately, as I've mentioned before, YaBB makes it pretty easy for HTML dinosaurs like me to make our forums look the way we want.

It's funny that you mentioned manipulating color and text sizes within the message to create an orange/black Halloween message or a red/green Christmas message because the latter is exactly what I do every Christmas.

Cool stuff indeed!  Cool

Edited:
Edited to add colors. It makes me happy.  Wink

Thanks! That's good to know.  Smiley

For me personally, a lot of times when I have news or special messages in our forum, it's simply a duplicate of what we're showcasing in the menu of our site. As such, one copy of HTML language works in both places.

By the way, that's a great tip. This is what I routinely do with previews of posts that later get published on the main pages of our site.
