Right below this will be something that looks like the following:

/var/www/virtual/YourDomainHere.com/cgi-bin/yabb/

The path above will not be as you have it (not exactly), but whatever it is, that is the path setting for your forum.

So if your HTML Dir looks like the following:

/var/www/virtual/YourDomainHere.com/htdocs/yabbfiles

Thanks for the pointers.  I've noticed this and thought it was odd.  Here is my setup:

Absolute Path:
/var/sites/w/www.MYDOMAIN.co.uk/public_html/cgi-bin/yabb2/

Board Directory:
/var/sites/w/www.MYDOMAIN.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb2/

Avatar & Attachment Directory:
These were along the lines of this format but when I started to troubleshoot I changed it to:
http://www.MYDOMAIN.co.uk/public_html/yabbfiles/Attachments

I've been playing with Paths.pl all day and I haven't yet found the correct combination.  Sad

I know - it was worth a try wasn't it! I realized it wasn't working!

I forgot to mention that you can easily make some posts here to get to that 5-post minimum. JonB always forgets about this minimum when he offers help via private messages, which is ironic because he can change the minimum number of posts required since he's an administrator.

***************************************

On a related note of showcasing this support forum in the best light that it can shine, an administrator can also install anti-spam mods.

Shhhhh! Don't tell JonB that I mentioned this. He can get a little pissy about me advocating the installation of an anti-spam mod.

Hopefully he's skipping past my posts, and won't notice that I've mentioned this.  Wink

Okay, so to check what your correct path settings are (in an otherwise working forum), go to your Admin Center, then Forum Configuration, then Path Settings and ...

Look for:
Absolute Path to your main YaBB directory
This information is useful for troubleshooting purposes

Right below this will be something that looks like the following:

/var/www/virtual/YourDomainHere.com/cgi-bin/yabb/

The path above will not be as you have it (not exactly), but whatever it is, that is the path setting for your forum.

So if your HTML Dir looks like the following:

/var/www/virtual/YourDomainHere.com/htdocs/yabbfiles

Then your Attachments Dir should be as follows:

/var/www/virtual/YourDomainHere.com/htdocs/yabbfiles/Attachments

And your Avatar Dir should be as follows:

/var/www/virtual/YourDomainHere.com/htdocs/yabbfiles/avatars

Disclaimer: This is based on YaBB 2.4 and it's also based on how my forum is set versus your forum. Nonetheless, hopefully this can be of some help, and it will possibly point you in the right direction to solve your issues.

You are so close!  Smiley

In a moment I'll show you how to know exactly what your path settings should be, although you now seems to have them correct.

In other words, what seems to be left are solving your issues of setting the correct permissions.

Be right back!  Wink

By the way, that was smart of you to add some test posts so that you can get to the minimum of 5 posts in order to send a PM for help.

However, adding posts in the section of the forum that you posted doesn't count in the number of posts one makes.

Oh well (a little more on that here).  Roll Eyes

  • In Admin >> Advanced Settings >> File Attachments - 'Attachments directory exists and has correct permissions?' is red and set to 'no'.

Essentially it's a similar story with the avatars.

Since it seems you now have your path settings correct, and you only need to deal with permissions (although they're correctly set at 755 for your folder), it's possible that you inadvertently uploaded those particular files as ASCII versus Binary.

Maybe you can try reloading those files in Binary.

By the way, even though you have your Attachments folder correctly set at 755, your server may have automatically assigned any files in that folder to 644 or 666, so you'll want to check to make sure they are also set with permissions of 755.

The same may need to be checked in your /yabbfiles/avatars folder (and files), all of which should be given permissions of 755.

***************************************

Humorous irony: I seem to be fine fixing permission and dealing with uploading issues after I get a forum operating, but my problem has been getting past the 500 error while installing a new forum.

Go figure.  Roll Eyes

In any case, good luck. You seem to be so close to successfully installing your updated forum.  Cool

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the kind offer. I can't PM you as I haven't hit the 5 post requirement!

Is there another way I can send it to you?

Regards,

Lee

LOL - well that's not good...

If you wish, you could paste your Paths.pl into a PM to me, and I will take a look at it.

Good Luck

Attachments M.I.A

Hello folks,

This is my first post and I've searching for many hours to try and get a solution for my problem.

I'm moving a YaBB board from one host to another as well as upgrading to the latest version.

I've followed various instructions and post and most things seem to be working accept attachments and avatars.

  • All the attachments are in the correct folder
  • From what I can tell, the permissions are correct (755)
  • attachments.txt is present and populated.
  • I've checked the path and even changed it to the direct path (which if I paste into a browser brings up a list of files).
  • In Admin >> Advanced Settings >> File Attachments - 'Attachments directory exists and has correct permissions?' is red and set to 'no'.
  • In Admin >> Advanced Settings >> Attachments Functions - File attachments stats are all 0

However, each post with an attachment shows the paperclip and (attachment deleted).  I have not tried to add an attachment.

Essentially it's a similar story with the avatars.

I think it's a path issue but I haven't got a clue what to do.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Regards,

Lee
