YaBB Developer Deceased

There are no actions to perform.
I am sad to announce that one of YaBB's greatest developers, Ron Hartendorp, has passed away on July 11, 2012. áRon was better known as "Spikecity" for his website. áHe was a long time contributor to YaBB development and created many of the features we all love as standard now. áRon helped lead the development team to create the line currently known as YaBB 2. áHe started working with YaBB just two years after the project started.

See his profile at: áhttp://www.yabbforum.com/community/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=6A4950525...

I remember when he was still a regular here, and he helped me immensely. A sad loss to all.

That is truly sad. Spikecity (Ron) was always humorous, helpful and full of 'the love of life'.

Just heard the news. So sorry to hear of Ron's passing.

Not just a legendary and long time YaBB & BoardMod developer... Ron was funny & intelligent, a family man, loved his children, hard working and respected in both his community & work. He traveled for his work in the oil services industries, and played hard... he loved boating (he had a vintage boat that was being restored).  Ron was a good man and a friend.

Best wishes and condolences to Ron's family, friends, co-workers, and all who had the privilege to know him.

That's more than sad news. It was always good to talk to the 'old' man and he was indeed a great YaBBer with brilliant ideas!

My sincere condolences.

There are no actions to perform.
Ron was the first 'big guy' (literally) at YaBB to befriend me. I asked him some probably foolish question, and got a quick reply via PM. I learned he loved life in a big way and was always willing to share. We also liked the same 'refreshments', and it was always him pointing out I didn't have mine yet..

So when he passed it was a real gut punch for me. I was forever hoping he might come back and give things a whirl for a bit.  We were close in age, and I have not come to terms with friends passing on regularly quite yet. Although he usually wrote on FB in Dutch, I always enjoyed seeing his pictures and had that 'if I am ever there' thought somewhere in the back of my mind. I indirectly work on the continent, and there's always the 'when are you coming?' question out there.

I would like to propose that the YaBB team dedicate our next full release to Ron's memory - with a 'Spikecity Edition' (or something close) subtitle and a dedication in the credits.  It's a good way to remember anyone - make something of value to their credit.

I 'borrowed' these two pics from his FB page, as I know how fond he was of his doggies. I'm sure they are missing him as well.

God bless you, Ron Hartendorp...
