Okay - that may be a big part of your problem. Active Session protection is turned on by default. You'll have to turn it off by hand.

In a good text editor open .Variables/Settings.pl
Down around line 507 there's a
Code
Select All
$sessions = 1; # Set to 1 to activate session id protection.

Change the 1 to a 0. That will turn off the Active Sessions ID which uses your IP address as part of the security protocol. (Then complain to your ISP about rotating your IP addresses like that.)

Let me correct myself. My IP address is changing. The last set of numbers keeps jumping back and forth!

Ok, still stuck. Each time it says my IP address has changed, the IP address is the same as the previous message. The CHMODs are set as pet the installation guide, so the Variables folder is 755, and the files within are set at 666. Basically, I have no admin tab. I have a continuous Update Session tab. Sometimes I am briefly shown the admin tab, and when I get to the main admin page, if I click on anything else, I am thrown back to the update session page. I am on satellite internet?

Usually, unless you're roaming on your smartphone, your IP address shouldn't be changing like that. Once you've verified your credentials, you should be good. I'm wondering if it's saving your IP address like it's supposed to.

Are the permissions of the files in your ./Members folder set to 644 and the folder itself to 755? (Although that should throw an error - not being able to write to admin.vars and admin.rlog.) But if YaBB isn't able to able to write your session info and IP info into ./Members then it can't record what it needs to validate your session.

Edited:
Of course, logging out and clearing your cache and cookies might be all you need, too.  Wink

Are you using the 'logout'?

If not - logout, then clear your cache and cookies and try again

I don't think so - about going into Maintenance on no space.

It isn't a cookie issue.  I think there are times when the install does not run full course, the Maintenance Lock is never released.

It would be in Setup.pl   Just a 'hmmmmm - I guess'

Hi there, ok, reset the setting in setting.pl back to 0 for maintenance mode. Not a problem now with that issue. I am having another issue now with STAYING logged in. It keeps asking me to update session. It has something to do with my IP that I logged in with changing.

Doesn't YaBB automagically go into maintenance mode when it doesn't have enough space?

Even having an old Cookie on your machine shouldn't lock out the admin as the new install probably has a new Cookie ID.

I'll hang a round and see if that works - Dandello (who is/was about a minute ago) is also quite expert on YaBB

OK - "No Dice" - not a cookie issue, as I had the same problem.

At the moment - we don't know how it got in Maintenance Mode, but we DO know the fix - DL and Edit the Settings.pl file, and delete maintenance.lock if it exists.

Good Luck
