sponsors, images on board top and bottom
Ok, I started reading some of the files from YaBB but it was a bit much to read here so I thought i would post here and try to find the answer.....

2 things..
1: the YaBB image in the top right corner of the board, Are we allowed to replace that with another image of our own?
2: On the bottom of the page , just above the copyright info, we would like to place banner images from our various sponsors such as amazon.com and hot topic etc.  Are we allowed to do this and if so where and how do we add the Href linking code to have these appear AND can we edit the header of the pages to use our rotating banner script we wrote?

Thank you all so much!

Yes, you can replace the logo - you just can't get rid of the YaBB copyright - but you can add more to it like the copyright for your new theme, etc.

To add things like graphics at the bottom (or at the top), all you need to do is edit ./Templates/default.html - that controls the top and bottom of all the pages. Any valid html/javascript should work there without problems.   Smiley

to 1: yes and the link for this as well
to 2: yes as long as it does not obscure the copyright info

for 1: it is best to right click the YaBB logo and save as
then edit as you need then save as whatever.png and upload this with ftp to the same place for you this will be my-chemical-romance/board/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/BlackNoir/
then goto admin > Forum Layout > Template at the bottom of the page > Templates to BlackNoir/BlackNoir.html
then find
Code Select All
 <td align="right" valign="middle" width="400" height="100" rowspan="2"><a href="http://www.yabbforum.com"><img src="{yabb images}/YaBBNoirLogo.png" alt="YaBB - Yet another Bulletin Board" title="YaBB - Yet another Bulletin Board" border="0" /></a></td>

edit <img src="{yabb images}/YaBBNoirLogo.png" alt="YaBB - Yet another Bulletin Board" title="YaBB - Yet another Bulletin Board" border="0" />

the tags "alt" "title" keep them the same and edit them to "My Chemical Romance Fan Board Forum"

the tag href make this your forum url

for 2: find
Code Select All
<div id="container">

add after
Code Select All
<table width=100% cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<td cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" align="center" valign="center">
sponsors, images on board code here </table>

find

Code Select All
<div class="copyright" style="width: 100%; text-align: center;">
<br />
{yabb copyright}
</div>

add before
Code Select All
<table width=100% cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">

I am sure the copyright "Powered by YaBB 2.5 etc" has to be maintained as a clickable link  Wink

Re: sponsors, images on board top and bottom
The copyright has to stay pretty much as is (although you can remove the 'powered by' If you really want to.)

The YaBB copyright notice should read : Quote:
YaBB Forum Software © 2000-2012. All Rights Reserved.

Messing with that is a no-no unless you pay money.

But everything else in the template is pretty open. see http://www.shadolibrary.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl

BTW - the SHADO Library is HTML5.  Grin

Re: sponsors, images on board top and bottom
I read somewhere in the support board that some bots or hubots search for "yabb" or the yabb copyright to find new boards to spam too...  is it OK if we change the bottom copyright to "YA bulletin board" to avoid spammers?  i have already been hit...well they tried....

Re: sponsors, images on board top and bottom
I doubt the bots are looking for anything in particular. Some people say they're triggered by the 'powered by Yabb' phrase, some claim it's the copyright.

My own experience - they're looking for a cg-bin/yabb2/ (or just 'yabb2' and throwing everything they've got at that until something sticks. (My server error logs are filled with requests for 'index.php, yabb.php, yabb.cgi, index.cgi., and a plethora of other possibilities. One thing that does slow them down is installing YaBB to something other than cgi-bin/yabb2.

Of course, there are also anti-spam mods to add that do a very good job slowing the bots down.
