Hi,
I have downloaded the BoardMod.exe as I want to use one of the templates. I have read the Blxxdy User Guide but am still stuck. Do I download the template and then run BoardMod against it or do I juct cope the code from the template and past it - but not sure where to...?
Any help greatly appreciated.
From a new Yabb user

You will have to have the YaBB 'code' (what is under cgi-bin/yabb) downloaded locally - you should get the whole nine yards.

You put it in a folder.

Install BoardMod.

Create a folder under BoardMod for the version you are working with

Put the extracted mod into that new BoardMod folder

Now run BoardMod

Point to the YaBB code folder -

You mod(s) will be in the Right Panel

Find the mod,

------------------- do the mod --------- (SingleStep, manually lets you get the picture of what is happening)

Upload the cgi-bin files

Read the Text that is with the mod/theme - you may have to upload files into 'yabbfiles' in addition to what is under cgi-bin

LOL _ Xnoddyx might have a video for this, I don't know

Cool

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Jonb,
Thanks for your feedback. I've done the Yabb download  etc - it's just that I'm not sure how to download and get the extracted mod into that new BoardMod folder. At the moment, I'm going to the BoardMods template vault SP1, and trying to get template 'Purple Blue Girl' as per below;

View Template Code
Template Name: Purple Blue Girl
Author: ruth_nf
Submit Date: 2002-12-22
Rating: 5.23/25
Views: 5456
Description: Girly colors in this purple and blue template -- omario

I can't download it ( there does not seem to be an option) so therefore I guess I can't update through BoardMod as it will not sow up as a mod. That's the bit I'm struggling with...

Okay - first, the 1x template isn't going to work properly for a 2.5 forum - too many essential things are missing. Your best bet is to grab the 1x template outside of BoardMod, look at the stylesheet for the colors of the various classes, and adjust the 2.5 stylesheet to match. You can do this from inside the 2.5 Admin center. You can also edit the various templates if you want to move things around. (Remember to back them up first in the event they get messed up.)

ok i see what it is you want to do
you want to make your 2.5 forum look like this here http://www.boardmod.org/templates/preview.php?id=223

but the code you have been looking at is for YaBB 1.x not YaBB 2.5AE i will see if i can get some time and make a template for you with the look of Purple Blue Girl and also make you a how to add it at the same time  Wink

Hi xNoddyx,
Many thanks for the files and the readme. I've uploaded but when I go into Template Configuration as user Admin, I am not  able to change 'Templates' to  pb_pastel. The only option I get is 'Forum default' and 'Old Yabb 2.1 style' - there seems no way to change to pb_pastel. I also tried going through CP to set pb_pastel as default template. Any ideas please.
PS - As a new user I have been very impressed with the pro-active support from contributors for the Posts I have made.

ok the files in yabb2 get uploaded to cgi-bin/yabb2/Templates/
and the files in yabbfiles get uploaded to /public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/
Edited:
so you end up with cgi-bin/yabb2/Templates/pb_pastel/ and /public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/pb_pastel/
/public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/pb_pastel.css

hope this helps you if not i will make a small video of how to do this for you.

There is an edit that has to be made to Setup.pl - the template settings

What's probably there:
Code
Select All
%templateset = (
'Old YaBB 2.1 style' => "yabb21|yabb21|yabb21|yabb21|yabb21|yabb21|yabb21|",
'Forum default' => "default|default|default|default|default|default|default|",
);                                                # Forum templates settings

You need to add, in exactly the format above, your new template info.

in this case
Code
Select All
'PB_Pastel =>"pb_pastel|pb_pastel|pb_pastel|pb_pastel|pb_pastel|pb_pastel|pb_pastel|",

(I don't recall seeing an easy template changer mod over at BoardMod.)

Hi xnoddyx,

Thanks - I checked folder structure andit's correct. However, I inadvertently uploaded as Biniary - redis using Ascii and CHMOD to 666 for all files but I still can't get to the pastel template through the Admin centre / remlate config option,

in the read me i have
Quote:
Purple Blue Pastel by xnoddyx

in admin goto Template Configuration and set all to pb_pastel i.g.

Style Sheet
pb_pastel

Images
pb_pastel

Header
pb_pastel

Board Index
pb_pastel

Message Index
pb_pastel

Posts
pb_pastel

User CP
pb_pastel

then save as Forum default this will then edit the look of the forum

if you have more than one Template on your forum then save as pb_pastel
then goto User CP > Profile > Options then set
"Which Template would you like to use?" to pb_pastel then Save Changes
