Has the YaBB CAPTCHA outlived its usefulness?

With the advent of 'spam for hire' tools like Xrumer, does the YaBB CAPTCHA still have a place in the lineup?

I have noticed some anti-spam tools/CAPTCHAs can now deliver both 'matching character' and questions w/answers to be picked from a drop down list in a single package.

What do you think?

I use a guestbook which uses solvemedia

Also uses anti-bot questions, captcha and checks headers.

You can download it from Here Guy is an excellent coder, although works long hours, Lazarus guestbook is part of cPanel install  Smiley

I think CAPTCHA is pretty much a thing of the past, as for YaBB.

I no longer use CAPTCHA on my forum and was leaning towards the attitude that it should be gone (as far as being in YaBB) since it has not been very effective in my opinion.

But, after seeing depablos post, I realized that I do depend on it for my guestbook within YaBB. For the guestbook, it seems to be working. Only a few have passed by it. Would be nice if spamfruits could be added to other things within YaBB.

A proper response to the matter of the 'areyouahuman/PlayThrough' thing will have to wait for a discussion (being written0 about Open Source software, licensing, and all that ball of wax.

As for someone building a 'mod' to use that - nice idea.  Smiley
