i am running the new version as far as i know.. just download it this summer.

If you are running 2.5AE, you will not have the anti-spam measures that I mentioned above, unless you added them as mods.

The latest version is 2.5.2. It has the Anti-Spam Question and Spamfruits built in, which are great at stopping most of the problematic spammers.

On my forum, I use a unique question.

ye the htaccess file is bloated.... i am running the new version as far as i know.. just download it this summer.

OK I found a cool site online for this... I selected my countries and it crated the IPS I needed.. I dont endorse this site as I just found it but it does seem to be VERY helpful from what I have seen so far.

the only problem I see in their file it eh beginning line

"order allow, deny"       is what it should be ..I believe they have it reversed.

You can do a google search for country ip blocks. I have a set of ip's but I'm not at my PC at the moment.

I can tell you that I blocked Russia and China and it helped but didn't stop it all. Your best bet is to use the latest version of YaBB, which includes some great anti-spam measures built in now.

Blocking entire countries is just going to bloat your htaccess file.

I can answer the second question at least - in Admin->Guardian, uncheck the 'write to .htaccess'. Then Guardian won't be changing things there.

I'm sure someone else will have the IP ranges you need.  Wink

We woudl like to block ENTIRE countries  to prevent SPAM.  we have notice that so many spammer are trying to get into our board from the Russia and China....

Is there a quick way to block them as a whole?  Maybe through HTaccess  file or something? I started entering IP addresses into the system but there are SOO many it is taking forever.

thanks
