Cannot Access "Advanced Settings" in Admin Centre

Post Tools
Hi:
I cannot access "Advanced Settings" in Admin Centre.  All other menu items can be access in the admin centre and  "Advanced Settings" is the problem child. When I select it tries to access "http://www.avonflyers.ns.ca/cgi-bin/Forum/yabb2/AdminIndex.pl?action=newsettings..." for 10 Mins , then I get a gateway timeout.  I have access it in the past and no changes were made to yaab prior to the problem.  I wanted to get in there to increase the disk storage size for the attachments.  Any hint's to correct the problem would be appreciated. Yabb 2.4  Thanks Bruce Hall

Provider uses Linux servers.  Also, I have replaced Settings_Advanced.pl with a known good backup copy with the same result.  Permissions are set for 755.

Replace NewSettings.pl as well as that's the script that actually writes to Settings.pl.

And check with your hosting service in case they upgraded something.

How about your AdminIndex.pl file? Isn't this the file that gets pulled up first?

I know you YaBB staffers can get a little ticked when outsiders come in to try to help, but just in case this helps, I hope you'll forgive me. After all, it's worth a try, right?

So maybe the AdminIndex.pl file is corrupt, or otherwise needs to be tweaked.

****************************************

By the way; at least I've done this; sometimes uploading a backed up copy of a file actually uploads another corrupted file; inadvertently of course. So what's worked for me has been uploading yet another backup copy using a presumably good 2nd copy (I usually keep 3-5 previous copies of backups for this purpose, which has helped a few times).

Edited:
At least it's known that he's pulling up the correct file as I use the same version, and see it as the same in our forum as follows:

/AdminIndex.pl?action=newsettings;page=advanced

Until he can gain access to his Advanced Settings, maybe someone who knows what to change can explain how to edit the Settings.pl file so that he can increase the disk storage size for the attachments as he wants to do.

Would that be under the following?

Code
Select All
########## File Attachment Settings ##########

No need to increase the disk storage for attachments settings yet.  Thanks.

I'm glad there's no rush. This problem you're having has to be so frustrating!

Probably on an unrelated note, sometimes when I've had a gateway timeout error, I was able to get through after reloading the url address. I've also gotten through when I used another browser. Other times I've used the free vsersion of Advanced SystemCare to clean up my system, and that's worked.

Then again, a gateway timeout error is really a server error, which means it shouldn't be related to YaBB at all. At least that's how I understand it. Of all things, the last time I had this happen to me with one of our sites was when our server's power source was failing. Once they replaced it, everything was fine. Go figure.

Morning, noon, or night, have a great one!

Any more suggestions??  The provider indicated that they made no changes.  I replaced settings.pl and still the same problem.

While it doesn't seem like this would be the case, I wonder if there's some kind of a permissions issue with the files that need to be accessed?

Maybe it's worth a try to check what those permissions are; 1st to see it they're set correctly, and 2nd to reset them in case it helps.

All permissions were already reset on the three files to 755 and still no joy.

Please ask your host these questions:

A. Was your server recently migrated/upgraded?

B. What Apache version?

C. Are they using mod_security?

Thanks

Problem is now solved.  Host had a failure on their Apache server.  They indicated a client had a runaway process and opened up too many files causing Apache to crash.  Whatever they did, fixed up the problem with the advance menu in Yaab2.

Bruce, thanks for coming back here to let us know what the problem had been. It's very helpful. Smiley
