Go here and download version 2.5.6. Versions of the download have nothing to do with your YaBB version but the actual mods have a difference.

Re: Converting 2.5 to 2.5.2 without losing settings
First, if you're going to install YaBB 2.5.2 on your server, do it before you add any additional mods. You may not need the StopForumSpam mod. You can use your old Settings.pl from cgi-bin/yabb2/Variables. So copy it and save it and then put it back in its proper folder when you're done.

The BoardMod program needs to know the location of YaBB.pl file (and the other files) you supposedly downloaded from your server and put into a directory on your computer (folders and all.) If it's 2.5, then the folder in c:\programs\boardmod\mods\ (or whereever it is) needs to be named 2.5. If you're working on YaBB 2.5.2 then that folder needs to be named 2.5.2.

Many 2.5 mods will work with 2.5.2 without any problems.

Re: Converting 2.5 to 2.5.2 without losing settings
BoardMod takes the version number from names of the folders in BoardMod/Mods/. It's a dropdown selector, not an input box. If there's nothing in the dropdown then there's no folders in BoardMod/Mods/ for BoardMod to read.

Once BoardMod can find the folders and you select one, the names of the mod files in that folder will appear.

Re: Converting 2.5 to 2.5.2 without losing settings
That is empty because you haven't copied the .mod file to C:/program files/boardmod/mods/2.5.2 folder.

Once you do that you will see the mod in the list on the right. You then tick the box to the left of the mod name and it will install. Look at the images on my site and it will be self explanatory.

The files you edit will be the ones that you download from your server. These should be separate from your backup just incase something goes wrong, you still have something to fall back on.

Go to the following link and read it. Nothing to download on this page. Just links and instructions that will help you. If you don't take the time to read it, it won't help!

http://www.mervingraves.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?custompage=boardmod

If nothing goes wrong during installation, a mod can be installed in minutes, not days.

You have a 2.5.2 folder showing in the pic that you posted so you have made progress. Paste a mod that you want to install into that folder and then re-select the folder. It will show up.

But, read the instructions in full on the page that I posted the link to!!!! I can't stress this enough.

Re: Converting 2.5 to 2.5.2 without losing settings
Hang in there. I was completely lost when I tried installing Boardmod ... none of it made any sense to me. I encountered the exact same problems you did. But then thanks to a couple of people in particular over at Boardmod, I was given step by step instructions until I was finally able to install a couple of mods.

Hopefully in the future at some point, YaBB will include Boardmod as part of its core so we can access it via our Admin Center, and it will also include a self-installation mod of sorts so that YaBB's public at large can use YaBB successfully.

Until then, feel good that a lot of people have used Boardmod successfully, and if a normal guy like me can do it, you can too. Ironically, once you see how it really works, you'll have one of those moments of clarity, and you'll think to yourself, "But of course!"

Morning, noon, or night, have a great one! ...

Dandello wrote on Jan 8th, 2013 at 5:21pm:
If you're installing it on 2.5AE, then you just need the first one.

If you're installing it on 2.5.2 you'll need both as the first one has the additional graphics and Perl files the mod needs and the second one has the 2.5.2 specific install package. (Many thanks to Derek BTW, for keeping this mod up to date.)

The other anti-spam mods incorporated into 2.5.2 are also available as mods for 2.5AE.

Note: if you need help installing mods, Carsten's forum at http://www.carsten-dalgaard.dk/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl is the place for mod assistance - most of the current mod writers check in there.

I put these instructions together after my last upgrade. I always seem to run into problems moving the messages folder, because it splits in it two because there are more than 10000 files.
