How to activate a new template in Y2.5.2?
This may be a stupid question, but I'm new on Y2... I downloaded a template, uploaded the files into the two "Templates" folders.

But I can't choose the new template anywhere, neither the admin center, nor my profile options. So how do I activate it?

Quote:
Uploading files:
1. Upload the newtemplate.css file (using ASCII transfer mode) to your public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum folder.  Set file permission to 644, whichever works for your server.
2. Upload the newtemplate folder and the graphic files inside it (using Binary transfer mode) to your public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum folder.  Set file permission to 755.
3. If your new template has a HTML file or any .template files associated with it, you will need to upload them (using ASCII mode) to your cgi-bin/yabb2/Templates/newtemplate folder.  Set file permission to 644.

Setting up for use:
1. Go to the Admin Center/Forum Layout/Template Configuration screen.
2. In the Configuration box, select the following:
Style Sheet: newtemplate
Images, Header, Board Index, Message Index, Posts, and User CP set to newtemplate if there is a specific file for that template to use, otherwise select default in the pull-down menus.
3. In the "Save As" section, type "newtemplate" (without quotes) in the input box and click the Save button.

That's it!  Your new template can now be selected for use in the Profile/Options page.

If you want to set it as the forum's default template, you can do that in Admin Center/Forum Settings.  Be aware that this setting only effects Guests and Member who are logged out.  It does not effect existing members who already have a choice of template set in their profiles.

Homer - that's not a dumb question - I've been running YaBB2 for ages and was scratching my head on that one for the longest time. The adding new templates function isn't exactly intuitive.  Huh

Re: How to activate a new template in Y2.5.2?
Thanks, xnoddyx! I figured it out myself yesterday. Well, more or less. I simply editet the Setup.pl manually  Grin .

Another question. I will only use one template and also will not give the users the ability to chose an other one. So I tried to delete all templates... well, no good idea, as it rendered my board useless. I got compression errors, script errors and so on. So I uploaded the default template again and the board worked.

So is the default template needed to run the board?

@ Dandello:
Yeah, YaBB isn't intuitive in many ways. Fortunately I run a Yabb 1 for 12 years now, I know all the code and it's highly modded. Some of that knowledge helped me to handle Y2. But as Y1 does not have templates, that was new to me.

If you're not going to give choices - back up the default templates and stylesheet and then overwrite the ones on your server with your new ones - making sure all the paths are correct to the stylesheets, etc.

(You want to back them up in case something bad happens.)
