server error when contacting my forum
I am unable to access our forum, I keep getting a server error.
I have contacted the web site help, but they only administer the web site.
The forum was uploaded to the web site host and worked fine for a couple of years, but now all I get is the server error.
I have uploaded a back up forum using FTP, but that does not work either.
After several hours of trying various fixes I have reached a dead end in my computer know how.

The web site itself is working fine I just cant access the forum from it.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do>
I have a whole forum relying on me to get it fixed, and I don’t have a clue anymore.
help please someone Cry

Re: server error when contacting my forum
If YaBB broke after working fine for years and no mods were added - then chances are very good that something happened with the hosting service that's hosting the website. They make have upgraded something into oblivion. You'll need to get from the website people how to contact the people running the server.

Re: server error when contacting my forum
I have been on to the BT (British Telecom) technical helpline, they told me they only support the Wed Site, and that they have no control over the forum placed on the Web space.

I have been trying various backups for seven hours now and I am still getting a server error and remain locked out.

I am uploading another backup at the moment, but I doubt it will work.

I think the forum is permanently lost somehow. Angry Cry

As of this post, your forum is showing up fine for me; at least your forum's main page.

I was most definitely getting your forum page. However, as of this post I'm now getting the following "403 Forbidden" error message:

Code Select All
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl on this server.

Edited:
And once again, as of this edit it's coming up fine.

By the way, you have one typo in the following message in your forum:

Re: server error when contacting my forum
I have just deleted the CGIbin and I am uploading another backup.
I am getting desperate now.
that is probably why you got the error message I imagine.

I am hoping deleting the old cgibin will remove any problems and the backup will work, but I am not holding my breath at the moment Roll Eyes

Well, now that you deleted your forum, I'm getting the following message:

Quote:
Not Found

The requested URL /cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl was not found on this server.

A PM isn't necessary. I was simply accessing your forum after going to the site you have listed in your profile (...). From there, I simply clicked the chat forum link you have in the upper left hand side of your site (very nicely done).

Re: server error when contacting my forum
I am quite pleased with the Web Site, for my first attempt it turned out quite good.

The backup has finished uploading. But I am getting the web page can not be found!

That is BS - basically they are telling you that they are selling things they have no knowledge or control of - like Perl support or even mySQL support. They have no knowledge or support for business applications or anything more complex than a static web page. Grab your backups and start looking for a new home for your site. If your forum suddenly went fubar without you having done something, chances are good that the problem stems from them.

Edited:
You might see if xnoddyx has a bit of time to look into this.

And yes, I get testy when hosting providers automatically assume that the previously reliable software's at fault after they've mucked things up so it won't work.

Evidently, your YaBB.pl file isn't where it's supposed to be. FTP into your site, and check to see that it's actually in your cgi-bin folder.

Good advice. He's always able to fix these things; even the 500 Internal Server Error that you're now getting.

Re: server error when contacting my forum
If it's a Linux site, maybe BT has changed something that controls the cgi-bin access? I have been playing about with hosts and some security fixes they implement breaks anything running in the cgi-bin?

The only host I have had any real success with is Here

My own site uses their Pro hosting package @ £4.99 per month, support is first class and YaBB runs the way it should. If there is one thing that frustrates me is shoddy support and a lack of knowledge from support staff.
