Pre-Registered header notice
Feb 12th, 2013 at 4:02pm
Post Tools
Hey all,

My "There are 2 Pre-Registered Members that are not yet validated." notice at the top of my board show 2 when in fact it's only one, if there were 2 pre-registered members waiting for approval then my header notice would reflect 3.  Always one more than actually waiting.

Any thoughts on why the notice is off by one extra or suggestions on how to correct this?

I am running version 2.5AE

Thanks,

Paul.

have a look for

username.pre and (remove)
username.wait and (remove)
and also look in
memberlist.inactive also in memberlist.approve

and remove Pre-Registered Members that don't show on the validated screen
you will have to ftp into your site for this.

Thank you for your response, here are the results of your instructions:

username.pre
username.wait

Neither of these files exist whether I have a pre-approved member waiting or not.

memberlist.approve is empty of data whether I have a pre-approved member waiting or not.

memberlist.inactive is empty if there is no pre-approved member waiting.  It will have data if there is a pre-approved member waiting.

I noticed in Variables\registration.log there is a CR/LF after the user data, should there be a CR/LF?

in here when it has items in it it will look like
Code
Select All
1360529023|N|RussellUB||xxx.154.xxx.100
1360553682|N|ChesterMc||xxx.31.xxx.22
1360554032|A|ChesterMc|ChesterMc|5.xxx.xxx.6
1360587137|N|DelilaBut||xxx.39.43.xxx
1360588274|A|DelilaBut|DelilaBut|xxx.xxx.205.227
1360615473|T|RussellUB|

and when
in admin > Forum Stats > Registration Log > and click (Clean up pre-registration account validation log)

the file should then be zero bytes and look like this
Code
Select All

A CR/LF (aka '\r\n' ) in the registration.log usually indicates the file was opened and saved through something like NotePad or Word. The proper line ending for that file is '\n'.

You'll need to open that file in something like NotePad++ or a *nix text editor and empty out the file to it's 0 length.

After some testing it's not a CR/LF thing.

Thanks for helping, if you have any other ideas that would be great but I can live with it.  It's not a show stopper, just an irritation.

Thanks again.

Paul.

Found it.

It appears I had an abandoned .pre file in my Members folder, so whenever a new member pre-registered some script counted the number of .pre files and found two files but the registration log in my Admin panel only showed one waiting Pre-Registration.

Thank you for the suggested reading material, I got my answer when I went to look for .pre files.

Paul.

p.s.  Now I see what I did wrong.  xnoddyx was telling me to look for username.pre and I was literally looking for username.pre and not "xxxxxxxx".pre

I feel so stupid now.   Embarrassed

That's exactly what I did when I was first told how to fix the same problem you had, and of which I subsequently learned how to do.
