I should add one caveat - if you had boards that already had viewing restrictions, you probably want to keep those in place.

If you want people to see the boards - make sure that for all your boards, in the viewing permissions, you have either all or none selected. (having none selected will allow guests to view.)
Set all the other board permissions - on every board, to Admin.

Then disable registrations.

Scratch my post below except for the cautionary comments.

Instead, what she said!

You'll want to be careful about this ... thank goodness I had backups of the forum.control and the forum.master files to reverse the changes I had made.

By the way, you have a beautiful looking forum, and I believe you're one of the larger YaBB forums out there; job well done!

In any case, I recommend that you first create a new board/category so that you can experiment with it to see the results.

Caution: I tested this with one of our more inactive boards, and found that guests could no longer see the board even after I made edits to include them.

Edited:
Sorry, but the solution below doesn't actually allow guests to view a forum that's been archived. But I'm leaving the instructions here in case they are otherwise helpful to you.

Meanwhile, maybe xnoddyx will come back to post a clarification about how to do this successfully.

Solution: Please experiment yourself ... but ... if you want guests in your forum to see your archived boards and categories, the following worked for me in our 2.4 version of YaBB:

1. In your Admin Center, go to Boards.

2. Check the box of the board you want to edit.

3. Make sure the "Edit" button is selected, and not the "Remove" button.

4. Click "Go" - then ...

5. Underneath "Optional/Advanced Information:" check the box "Show to all?" - then click "Save" to finish.

But again, you'll want to experiment with just one board (probably one at a time) until you see how these changes actually work.

Good luck archiving your forum. I think it's great that you're doing this. Smiley

How to turn my 2.5 board into an archive
Feb 15th, 2013 at 5:14pm
Post Tools
After over 10 years and nearly 450,000 posts on my (currently) version 2.5 forum, it has run it's course and I want to disable posting and turn the board into an archive where everyone can see all the posts and use search tools, but users are no longer able to post.

I searched through the Admin sections and through this forum as well but was not able to figure out how that is accomplished.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks to the authors who created this great board software that I've been proud to use for 10 years. Smiley
