OK a new day and time for the conversion Smiley

…but where is convert.pl ??

or maybe I should run http://www.mysite.com/forum/Setup.pl

like it says here?

/YaBB_2.5.2/Quick-Guide/English/extras/upgradeY1.html

Trying that now…

OK I'm in Setup.pl but i'm not sure if this is the upgrade process or not? It seems it's setting up a new forum? Should I continue here or should I be in convert.pl which I can't find anywhere in the cgi-bin.

You set up your new forum and make sure you can log in. Then follow the instructions in the Quick-Guide that tells you to copy your Gold Boards, Member,Messages and Variable files to their respective folders inside the yabb2/Convert folder.

I've got too many versions in my head.  Embarrassed In 2.5.2 Convert is still part of Setup.pl. Once your forum is installed (make sure you can log in as Admin) go back and run Setup.pl again. This time it will take you to the conversion utility.

The conversion utility goes through all the board files, member files, messages and variables and changes them to the 2x format without damaging the original files. If there are files missing that it needs, it will tell you.

What about this:

/home/storrence/vivendodaluz.com/cgi-bin/yabb2

I've never seen home/storrence before. Maybe it's something to do with dreamhost servers?

Then press the autofill button?

That will be what the setup script detected as where - on the hosting server - your files actually are. Make sure the url's (the http addresses) the script thinks are correct actually are correct and then let it autofill everything else. This is the point where the Paths file is written.

OK I got to this step but it's not  accepting my path. I'm just going to the old forum now and copying that URL. Is that the path it's asking for?

YaBB 2.5.2 Converter
Make sure your YaBB 2.5.2 installation is running and that it has all the correct folder paths and URLs.
Proceed through the following steps to convert your YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.x forum to YaBB 2.5.2!

If your YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.x forum is located on the same server as your YaBB 2.5.2 installation:
Insert the path to your YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.x forum in the input field below
Click on the 'Continue' button
Else if your YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.x forum is located on a different server than your YaBB 2.5.2 installation or if you do not know the path to your SP 1.x forum:
Copy all files in the /Boards, /Members, and /Messages folders from your YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.x installation, to the corresponding Convert/Boards, Convert/Members, and Convert/Messages folders of your YaBB 2.5.2 installation, and chmod them 777.
Copy cat.txt from the /Variables folder of your YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.x installation to the Convert/Variables folder of your YaBB 2.5.2 installation, and chmod it 666.
If you have 'Add More Membergroups' installed on your YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.x, copy MemberStats.txt from the /Variables folder of your YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.x installation to the Convert/Variables folder of your YaBB 2.5.2 installation, and chmod it 666.
Click on the 'Continue' button

Have you copied your old files into yabb2/Convert?
The default path to Convert inside your 2.5.2 installation should be simply './Convert'

If not then the path to your files would be something like '/home/storrence/vivendodaluz.com/cgi-bin/yabb' (A path is not the same as a url.)

First I didn't copy them because it seemed the easier way was to leave them where they were at since they were on the same server and just point to it's path. That didn't seem to work because I probably didn't specify the path correctly. So now I just copied the old files to members, boards, messages and the one file in variables it says to convert. Then I tried specifying the path in different ways but nothing worked.

The files are in /vivendodaluz.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Convert

I tried:

./Convert
/Convert
/vivendodaluz.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Convert
/home/storrence/vivendodaluz.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Convert

always I get the same error of no such file or directory. Even though the files are in the folders in the Convert folder.

ah ok it is always good to have a backup before any work as to why i can't get into Messages it may be that the server is the directory owner for that it may also be that another ftp user owns the directory or the server is having a problem with that directory if you can try and see if your ftp account will let you get in the Messages directory and let you make a copy of them.

Hi xnoddyx, I was on page 2 of this thread and didn't see your reply until now  Shocked

I will duplicate that folder so you can mess with it better and hopefully open it. I will check the permissions also. Doing it right now…
